Guest guest
Me too! LOL I had to stop laughing so hard before I could forward it! I tried to pick just one that was "me" and I couldn't.... every one of them applied to me! Ronnie won't take me to Walmart anymore because I go buy fabric. I don't even have anywhere else to stash any but I love it and HAVE to have more! LOLOL I can ALWAYS use it somewhere..... right? LOL Then he gripes every day because he KNOWS the reason I had to have the huge farm table was so I could have more room to fill it up! I try to clear a 2 foot square for him to sit and eat dinner but sometimes I just can't do it. Hell, that's what TV trays are for right?? hehehe If I do get a wild hair and clean off the table, the first thing everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) says when they come in the house is "Oh, are you having company?" Guest guest
I think I am going to have to join the Sew-a-holics Anonymous. I have been to Joann's 4 times in the past 2 1/2 weeks. Each time I have come out with enough fabric for a minimum for 4 dresses for my 3 granddaughters, cross stitch kits, more floss, at least a half dozen patterns for the girls (they had them on sale at 99 cents on 2 different days except for the Vogue which was 75% off), 3 patterns for myself, a pattern for a sofa slipcover mainly so I will not screw up how I measure, a pattern for pj bottoms for Jim (except I am going to make him some casual knit shorts so I don't have to look at him running around here in his boxers all day and then when someone comes to the door, he can never do answer it); and today, I bought the most gorgeous fabric for my slipcover (or rather I ordered it) which has all the colors in it that are in 2 favorite pictures that I bought about a year before we left CA. I won't tell you what the total is that I spent...oh, and I also ordered enough fabric over the internet for 4 pairs of capris for the girls for school clothes and fabric for a pair for me with a matching blouse/jacket. Now I have to get myself organized where I can store all this until I get the sewing underway. I know, I know....pace myself...and REST when I need it. Guest guest
Some of the fabric I bought on ebay was vintage barkcloth which makes great decorating items (slipcovers, pillows, etc). I've also bought some novelty fabrics to use in quilting. I always wait until the last second to bid and sometimes have gotten wonderful fabric for 99 cents! (once I got it for 99 cents for three yards!) I make sure I'm not bidding enough so that the shipping makes it more expensive than if I'd gone to the store. I also bought a bunch of different Christmas fabrics to make covers for my folding chairs for Christmas dinner. Guest guest
Kathy, Ronnie uses a folding chair in the bedroom to put his boots on (the bench, bed, chaise, etc were all "too squishy") and I made a beautiful (if I say so myself) slipcover for it.... sorta full on the bottom and a giant bow on the back.... I'll find the pattern number if you want... it's in the sewing closet LOL. My sil loved it so much, she went and bought some slinky royal blue fabric and I made one for her vanity chair. You know if I did it, it was extremely easy LOL but they turned out so exquisite looking for how easy they were! What kind of Christmas fabric are you buying? I always do my dining room in royal (dark dark) blue and silver and white snowflakes and all of my Christmas stuff for the kitchen and DR are snowflakes. I'm not sure how it's going to do with the red walls this year but we'll see. It's way too far gone for me to switch patterns now! I may try to find some things in the blue and red with country stars to blend into the blue with white and silver stars and maybe it will all work together. It's way too soon to worry about that but not too soon to start Christmas sewing! Guest guest
What I've been doing the last few years is covering our tables (we have anywhere from 22 to 35 for Christmas depending on if Denny's sister and her family is in from Nevada, if his brother is dating, if my brother and s-i-l are working, etc) with vintage Christmas tablecloths--various hollies, Santa's, poinsettia's, etc. The material I have for the chairs varies within the same kind of themes. It's very eclectic, which isn't usually my style, but for some reason at Christmas the old red, green and gold of my childhood is very comforting. I did buy some patterns (couldn't decide which of the two I liked best and figured I could use one for Christmas covers and the other for a more formal cover that I could use year round). One of them sounds like the one you have, but thanks for the offer. I must clear a path to my work area and sewing machine, LOL. If I don't start soon I'll be rushing in Dec and set myself into a flare. Plus I have other projects going for my Christmas list, LOL Kayly was surprised at the shore when she saw something she liked and I said "Well, I would get it for you for Christmas, but I already know what you're getting" She said "You have your Christmas list already?" LOL--I started it after everyone left on Christmas night. Kathy Fw: craftaholics anonymous Craftaholics Anonymous 12 Step ProgramNewly Revised to 13 Steps© 2001 by Shirley @ CraftSayings.com 1. Guest guest
I'm one of those that think it's nice to have a "theme or color scheme" for Christmas decorating, but the only thing that is every restricted to a deliberate use of only red and green or burgundy and gold, etc. is when I'm doing the table. The rest of the Christmas decorations are eclectic because I decorate my trees (or I did when I had the house in CA and had 4 trees) was that the main one had everything from clothespin people ornaments to ornaments my children and grandchildren made over the years. I also matching 3' trees on either side of the fireplace down in gold musical ornaments with plaid ribbon garland and bows and a 4' tree that had crystal (or clear Lucite type) ornaments and pearl garlands. Needless to say, decorating here in FL was severely restricted last year (I was not doing any kind of tree...just had a wreath on the door) but my son sent me a live tree which was decorated that I put on my porch. I'll be interested to see if I can get Jim into some type of decorating mood this year...he is the original Scrooge but I just go ahead and do my own thing. Guest guest
I always decorate every room to some extent. The decorations carry a theme and aren't so eclectic as the tables, but the theme in general remains the homey , woodsy Christmas' of the past. The tables are set with my Christmas China and goldware. The napkins are white (from my Grandma) damask because of the tablecloths all being different. Denny never put up a tree before we were dating, But he always says he loves the way the house looks and feels at Christmas. And he helps out with the decorations, LOL, but there I'm in charge.
