I usually always bring my lunch, and just eat in the office. But, today I did not have a diet soda with me. So, I went to the cafeteria to get one. Oh, man.. mistake. Everybody was buying stuff that is SOOO bad for you! Hamburgers, Chick-fil-A, Curlie Fries, loaded baked potatoes, nachos with heaps of melted cheese and sour cream.... man. The junk-food-junkie part of me was starting to want it... so, I grabbed my Diet Dr. Pepper and got the heck out of there! I was happy with my lunch once I got away from the smells. I think the smell of food I used to LOVE is so hard!

Guest guest
.. I think the smell of food I used to LOVE is so hard! I think the smell is what does me in, too. Going by the bakery, smelling all that fresh baked pastries and bread. It's so tempting but when you taste it now, it doesn't taste as good as I remember. That's the only reason I can have will power.Reminder: The South Beach Diet is not low-carb. Nor is it low-fat. Guest guest
Preaching to the converted! I got fat (there I said it!) because I got lazy and started eating far too many meat and potato meals and far too much fast food. Now that I'm on the SBD diet I'm choosing - every day and every minute - to make better food choices. Food shopping is much more deliberate now. Eating out - especially fast food - is a challenge not an obstacle. Now that I " know better " I really notice people's poor shopping habits and eating habits. I'm really starting to agree with all those people that came out and commented that obesity is the nation's greatest health threat. (I'm from Canada and this is really getting to be a big news item here). Because my weight loss has been so noticeable people I know ask me about SBD. I always take the time to explain the diet but I accent the health benefits and that choosing healthier isn't choosing less tasty or less filling or less interesting foods. I try not so much to sell SBD as I do promote healthier eating and lifestyle choices. > She said she had been going to Curves (exercise program) for several months and she had gained 1 pound every month. Guest guest
---True , Americans are definitely not alone in that dept. Our (Canada) stats show the same thing. We are too fat and so are out kids for a variety of reasons: removing daily phys ed from the elementary school ciriculum, more tv watching, video games, computers, less movement in general and fast high fat foods in extremely ridiculous portions!! Guest guest
--But sometimes that can be easier because you get sick of the smell of those rich desserts. I know when I was much younger, I worked in the OLD DUTCH potatoe chip factory years ago, I was sooo sick of potatoe chips and the smell of them frying in that hot oil made me nauseated. As employees we were allowed to pick them off the table as they came out of the deep fryer and eat them freshly cooked and still hot! When I left I did't eat another potatoe chip for at least a good year. Ditto for the icecream at Dairy Queen. When you have access to it and no limits, you can go wild and be sick of it pretty darn fast!! So now I am thinking I need to find a different job~~ perhaps a Chocolate Factory!! But needless to say I still wont work around food in any capacity!! LOL - In South-Beach-Diet-Getting-It-Right , " leslie " <lesliemm@m...> wrote: > LOL, I am a pastry chef. Guest guest
I've found that yielding to those temptations is disappointing. Things just don't taste like they used to so not yielding has become much easier. I guess that my " tastes " have changed. Guest guest
I guess that I am lucky in a way. I have never really been a dessert eater, though I do love bittersweet chocolate. Usually my carb cravings tend to be more towards pasta and good NY style bagels and breads. I have been a chef for over 20 years and I guess you do just get bored with it all after that long. I am also diabetic, so abstaining from sugar is not only a weight issue, but a health one for me. in Atlanta ----- Original Message ----- I am a pastry chef. If I can resist it anyone can!!!!! Guest guest
Truthfully, I don't even smell it anymore, but I know what you mean about having unlimited access to it. Somehow 10 pound bars of chocolate in your face all day just seems like overkill and unappealing, LOL. in Atlanta --But sometimes that can be easier because you get sick of the smell of those rich desserts.
