Traci,

I was using Melatonin for my son's sleep but no longer use it. It helped him get to sleep, but then he was up every morning at 3:00 a.m. It seems that in a small percentage of people, my son being one of them, the melatonin can cause you to awaken between 7 - 8 hours after using it, regardless of the time of day or the need for sleep. My DAN! doctor explained this to me and so he is now off the melatonin. For most people, however, this will not happen and your son will probably sleep through the night. If I were you I would definitely try it. If he keeps waking up 7 - 8 hour after taking it and can't return to sleep, you will know why. On the other hand, he may end up sleeping through the night. You have nothing to lose and possibly a lot to gain IMHO.

I hope it works for your son.

Does anyone use Melatonin to help with sleep problems? My two year old is up anywhere between 6-8 times a night. I really need help with getting him to sleep through the night. It is really hard on my husband and I. It also causes disruption with my other two children sleep. Thanks, Traci (Aidan's Mom)
