Guest guest
I've been reading this book: " The French Don't Diet Plan " by Will Clower, and there is a lot in it that really has helped me apply the IE principals. I find the book to be generally interesting and informative. Although he claims not to be, it sounds a little " prescriptive " at times. There is a whole section on a mathematical formula regarding volume and time between meals and what that means, which I found myself pretty much skipping over. But, the biggest thing I love is the idea of eating " real " food, as opposed to " faux " food. He says to get rid of all " faux " food, including low-fat, sugar free, chemically processed food, especially high fructose corn syrup. He recommends eating real butter, full-fat milk and yogurt, and chocolate. The idea being that you will be satisfied with less, and you won't be putting more chemicals into your body. I tried a couple of things. I got a tall full-fat latte at Starbucks, and I couldn't finish it. I liked it, but it was so rich I couldn't finish it. (And trust me, I have had venti non-fat lattes without this problem in the past.) I also got some Breyers ice cream (ingredients: milk, sugar, egg yolks, vanilla) -- and ate a bowl of it. It was SO GOOD! And I really didn't need any more. The other thing I love in this book is the way he has you linger over a meal (not just to eat slowly, but to really savor and love the food and the company - or a book, if there is no company). He says to serve yourself less than you think you are hungry for, and to plan on having seconds. If, at the end of your plate, you are still hungry, go back for seconds without guilt -- again serve yourself less than you think you want and plan on thirds. Also, plan on dessert. This idea I think is fully in keeping with the IE principals: namely, there is always more food, so you don't have to fill up with " last supper eating " . He also advocates enjoying your exercise -- enjoying your life, really. To savor everything in your life, including your food, so that you don't need food to fill some mental or emotional void in your life. Highly Recommended. -
