Barbara,

I've had springs in both eyes for 5 yrs. And they both had to be replaced but

that was partially my fault for not knowing the do's and don'ts. I would rub

my eyes if something got in them, rub when taking a shower. Also, since I use

drops and an ointment I get stuff in my eyes, rather then rub my eyes now, I

use a warm compress to get the stuff out of my eyes, that works best for me,

and there isn't any other maintenance that I know of, just need to be careful

and not rub. Surgery takes between 3 and 4 hours, then you use a cold

compress for the first 24 hours to get the swelling down, and then a warm

compress during the day for a couple days. There may be a spring adjustment

needed some time after surgery, that can be done in the Drs. office. His eye

will be black and blue for a couple weeks, that'll go away, after that he

will be able to blink. I prefer springs over a gold weight because of my

problems and that's my choice, others prefer a gold weight and that's their

choice as well. Let me know how things go and if you don't mind who the

doctor is that will do this.

I wish your son well.

Between surgery and recovery it took about that long, adjustments are made in

the office and doesn't take long at all. Guess some Drs. do things

differently.

Hi ,

Same thing happen to me, Dr. Levine did surgery when I was in St. 's

getting over my AN removal. Three months later when I went back for my ABI

testing I had my other eye done as well.

Mike

<< Hey Mike!

Dr. Levine put in my spring too. My eye would not close and lubricate

itself after my AN surgery so the week after I had the spring put in. Boy 2

surgeries in 2 weeks. Not fun!
