Guest guest
We went for our 39 week appointment & had the US done to estimate the baby's weight. The results were that he is estimated to be 6 pounds, 9 ounces - give or take. They said that the abdominal measurement was a little behind which suggested some assymetrical IUGR; so we had a NST done which he passed with flying colors. The other news was that although he was in the vertex position, he still has not engaged & my cervix is still only dilated 1 cm (for the past 2-3 weeks) and " very thick. " My OB feels that the baby may not be engaged properly due to the " altered anatomy " associated with the UD. The measurements on the US also suggest that I may be a week behind the calculated due date - so, in my mind that may also be a factor. They plan to do a NST every 4-5 days from here on out & , if the baby does not progress into labor on his own, my OB would like to induce & , " if that doesn't work, " proceed to a c-section. The planned date will be February 6th, if labor doesn't begin before then. I am a little concerned about being induced & really hope that things progress naturally. After all the months that I worried about an incompetent cervix, it turns out that I have the cervix of steel!! My last day of work was Friday, so I guess I am just going to wait this one out!! Wish me luck!! Tammy UD - EDD 1/30/02 (or not?!)

Guest guest
Tammy, I'm glad that all is going well. It's wonderful and reassuring to hear all that, isn't it? As for being induced, I was induced and it really was okay. I know us MAs have special considerations with induction, but I just wanted to let you know that I found it to be no problem whatsoever. Good luck. I'll be thinking of you!

Guest guest
Hi Tammy, Congratulations on making it to 39 weeks!! Another UD success story - I am so happy for you. I almost got chills reading your post, it sounded SO similar to all of my pregnancies. I have had the IUGR issues with all 3 of my babies, they ranged from 6 lbs. 12 oz to 6 lbs. 4 oz. at term. I hope you aren't too concerned, even if the baby is " small-ish " , he/she can still be perfectly healthy, and to be honest, I always thought my body had an innate wisdom about the baby's size. There is NO way I could deliver a 9 pounder I also wanted to reassure you that I was induced with my 2nd baby. Since the 2nd pregnancy was in my left uterus ( the 1st was in the right), it was treated as a 1st pregnancy, with similar concerns to your regarding how labour would go. I just wanted to tell you that my total labour+ delivery took 2.5 hours and was very easy and uneventful. I did have an epidural, but no other interventions and it was fine. I know that inductions can cause problems sometimes, but generally they go well, so try not to worry too much. I hope these last few days are peaceful for you, try to rest up for the chaos ahead I am going through the round-the clock feeding with my 2 week old, so I know what I'm talking about Take care and keep us posted. I am so happy and excited for you, here's wishing for an easy and uneventful delivery!!! Take care and best of luck, I'll be thinking of you. Guest guest
> After all the months that I worried about an incompetent cervix, it turns > out that I have the cervix of steel!! Tammy- Isn't it funny how we spent our entire pregnancies praying our cervix won't open, and now all we can do is hope that they will?!!! I am just 7 days behind you and I've been 0.5cm dilated for about 3 weeks. I'm hoping not to be induced as well (my OB would prefer not to). 2/6 is my due date, so I'll be really jealous if you have a baby that day! Best of luck in these last few days! Guest guest
Gretchen - If you are any bit of a competitive person, like I am.... Maybe we can race for February 6th & see who wins. Who knows - maybe some competitive spirit will spark our cervices into dilating!!! LOL!! Speaking of competition -- the minute my DH heard that we will probably be induced on Feb 6th, his first comment was " Looks like we'll be watching the Olympics from the hospital!! We're definately getting TV in the room now!! " How's that for priorities!!! Tammy UD > 2/6 is my due date, so I'll be really jealous if you have a baby > that day!
