Guest guest
Sharon, I am so sorry to hear you were in so much pain. I can't imagine how it must have hurt. I am sorry I have no suggestions but will keep you in my prayers. The spasms hit hard during the night. It was about 1:30 a.m. when I first roused to the feeling of my big toe on the left leg stretching up. I was so sleep that I didn't realize what was happening at first and I tried to stretch my foot down. BIG mistake! My left leg went into full flexed spasms and then the right leg did too. The right leg went into the other type of spasms with the deep, severe painful spasms. Years ago I described those spasms to my neuro as a "charley horse times a thousand". I went to two store yesterday where I had to walk. I used regular grocery carts and I felt the fatigue after the second store. Then I went to Wal Mart but I used a ride on scooter. Add to this that I am fight a cold. The adults in the house are the only ones without a cold. My two oldest grandsons (Challis' boys) are visiting me for several weeks and the 16 y/o came down with a cold after he was here. So my muscles were tired when I went to bed. Then I felt cold and put an extra comforter on the bed. When I woke with the spasms I was really hot from the extra blanket and I'm sure that also contributed. The spasm were so painful. When those kind of spasms hit I usually get one deep in my inner thigh. It's like a tornado and I can feel the muscles twisting all the way to to thigh bone, I swear. lol I couldn't move because any movement at all increased the intensity of the spasms. I had to fight the involuntary urge to cry out--I fought it because I don't want to scare the stuffin' out of my grandkids. I finally was able to reach to my nightstand drawer and feel for my meds. I took an extra 10 mg. of Baclofen and an extra Klonopin (clonazapam). I was as still as possible and the meds took hold and I finally was able to go back to sleep. At bedtime I already take 60 mgs. of Baclofen, 800 mgs. of Neurontin, and 1 and a half Klonopin. I'm gonna play around with my dosing today (increasing the Neurontin and Klonopin) and do my stretching. What do YOU do when you are hit with these kind of spasms?I am bummed by this because I always worry that my MS is progressing even further, you know? I was supposed to see my neuro on the 14th but it's been rescheduled to the 29th. love to all of you,Sharon /font>I was trying to daydream, but my mind kept wandering. <!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]--><!--[endif]--> Everyone is raving about the all-new Yahoo! Guest guest
{{{{{{{{Hugs}}}}}} I think you might have overdone it and that caused the spasms. You're going to need to rest up for awhile to get feeling better. I'm freezing when I go to bed but I do NOT put more covers on. I know I will be just fine after a bit. I learned the hard way about making myself too hot at night. It ruins the whole rest of the day. I haven't had those kinds of spasms in a year or so. I guess when the Avonex started working. I got them when I got too hot too. I haven't overheated in a LONG time too. Just try to rest up and don't move too much. But yes stretch! Did you get that YogaZone DVD? I love that one! x0x0x0x0 Shirley Sharon Marsden wrote: I am reaching out to all of my friends & compadres here this early morning just to tell someone who understands. Guest guest
Hi, I'm doing good, I go to the Neuro tomorrow to get the results of my MRI. They took 267 pictures so we'll see if they found any new lesions. I seem to do good with the treatment I'm on so I really can't find a reason to change unless things get worse. My biggest problem is trying to find some energy. Prayers for you ChuckSharon Marsden wrote: I hope you never do. Not every MSer has the spasms just as not all MSers have every MS symptom. Guest guest
Thanks Bill. I've taken my bedtime meds and I'm winding down by checking email, then doing the jigsaw puzzle on aarp.org. Do you ever do those? I also like their weekly trivia. Even if I feel cold I will NOT put an extra blanket on the bed tonight. I learned my lesson last night! lolHave a good eveningSharon I was trying to daydream, but my mind kept wandering. Guest guest
Hiya Sharon, I know how scary those type of spasms can be. Are you married? Do you have anybody near by to help when these happen? The reason I ask, is because I have had very similar episodes. Last year they were happening at least once a day, mostly with my foot but sometimes my calf. Stretching is the best way to stop but when your body is siezing up sometimes stretching can be the hardest thing to accomplish. I have my hubby and son trained on what to do when they see the spasm (basically they have to bend or massage in the opposite direction of my curl). It's terrifying when nobody is there and the moment it is happening, it seems to last a lifetime and is so incredibly painful. I can only imagine your sense of panic because I have been there! Hope it gets better soon. Mindy > Spasms hit hard last night > > > > I am reaching out to all of my friends & compadres here this early morning just to tell someone who understands. I don't have a lot to offer as help but I can certainly sympathize with you. Those moments are scary - it makes us each wonder - uh-oh is it progressing further? I'm gonna play around with my dosing today (increasing the Neurontin and Klonopin) and do my stretching. > > What do YOU do when you are hit with these kind of spasms? > > I am bummed by this because I always worry that my MS is progressing even further, you know? Guest guest
Last night was better. My legs were more relaxed and I slept until 7:48 this morning! It's unusual for me to sleep that long but I sure needed the rest. This is a very uncertain disease, isn't it? That makes it hard. I do remind myself that there are many things worse than MS, though.(smiling)Sharon I was trying to daydream, but my mind kept wandering. Re: Spasms hit hard last night Sharon, I am so sorry to hear about your rough night. I don't have a lot to offer as help but I can certainly sympathize with you. Those moments are scary - it makes us each wonder - uh-oh is it progressing further? The uncertainty of this disease is hard. I will keep you in my prayers....but please take it easy! Sounds like you need to absolutely lay low now!!!! Hugs to you,Sharon Marsden <wobbletowalk@ yahoo.com> wrote: I am reaching out to all of my friends & compadres here this early morning just to tell someone who understands. Guest guest
That's good news Chuck. When was the first MRI done? Do you have just the one lesion? Did they do a spinal tap when you were first diagnosed? Why couldn't anything be done if it was a tumor? I'm not wishing you a tumor now.... but I was just wondering. lolSharon I was trying to daydream, but my mind kept wandering.
