Kim,

I think what is important is that you made your own decisions. There was a

time that I would have said, Kim can do it, so can I. As you know, I don't

beleivethisnow. I am and me and you are you....In fact I don't believe I can

even learn from your experience....So I hope it's not too radical to say that

really only you learned something from your drunk. Now here is one word of

advise, if you don't get offended...get lots of rest, eat well...and move

on..I accept that you could tell me shove my advise up my rump, but it is

meant in the very best spirit.

So sorry to hear about your yukky experience, Kim. Hope you're

feeling a bit better now.

Yes, but even mashed potatoes will make you upchuck if you eat an

unnatural, unhealthy amount. It is not alcohol per se that is bad for

your stomach, liver, kidneys ... It is large quantities, consumed

faster than the body can reasonably process it...

Remember, Kim, you can certainly live a happy, healthy life if you

abstain totally. It's a valid choice, and the right one for many. But

there is no reason to conclude that the only alternative to abstaining

is poisoning yourself by sucking down 2 liters of wine.

After allowing your body to recover from the punishing experience,

you might want to think about what you've learned from the experience.

I still recommend reading Peele or Kishline on moderation, and consider

making an absolute commitment to moderation.

Most drugs are poison if you have too much of them too fast. In the

proper amounts they are beneficial, even alcohol.

I was once at a New Year's Eve party where the hostess said to me that

she wanted to get blasted, would I please make sure that things didn't

get out of control. It was a huge party, several hundred people, and

not only did I only drink 4 drinks between 7 PM and 5 AM (when I poured

the last celebrant into a cab), I also had the benefit of lots of

adrenalin to keep me alert, because that many people in 3000 sq. ft.

can definitely be a problem. Then I had to take a cab home myself,

because my escort was by then unfit to drive, probably more from

fatigue than liquor.

Dear Kim;

Having repeated your experience many times, I must agree, puking

and hangovers do suck. Whether one gets drunk intentionally or

from that nasty habit borne compulsion, the results seem pretty

much the same. Fortunately it ain't terminal, only feels that way.

I can agree with 's brother's statement as far as it goes. Folks

like me develop I believe a pattern of behavior in regard to the use

of alcohol and unless that is changed, I believe the result is not a

great one.

I don't believe any length of abstinence prepares a person to

moderate. Abstinence is just the flip side of drinking whiskey by

the quart. Healthy drinking habits are an experience over time IMO

and aren't a by-product of abstinence.

I believe forming moderate drinking habits takes an investment in

time, just like making anything a habit.

My own case may not apply as I drank to stop pain. A physical

pain with an emotional base. When the pain was gone, so was the

need for the " Pain Remover " .

Over time I have developed the habit of not going to drinking affairs,

with a few exceptions, those being friend's birthday parties or

Christmas Parties where I know most everyone.

Working for myself, I don't need to go to those lunches with the

boss or clients, thus I'm in very few situations where drinking is the

norm.

Point of all this, is I don't need alcohol in my life and don't want to

invest the time time involved for the planning, carrying out the plan

etc.

Short version " If it works don't fix it. "

Hi Kim,

I've got an idea now for a new anti-alcohol commercial. This is your

brain - picture of potatoes. This is your brain on alcohol - picture of

mashed potatoes.

Oh well, couldn't resist.
