Guest guest
Hi Sue, I've been on Neurontin for quite some time - years. IT was prescribed for me for muscle spasms. I take 3600 mg. a day. In 1999 when I was in the hospital for deadly staph infections they took away all of my other meds except the Neurontin. It really is necessary for me. I've accidentally run out of it before and have been miserable until I refilled the pres. Hope this helps you. Beth
Guest guest
Sue I take 1800 mg a day and has not improved my sleep my study showed arroused 27 times i think it was in 3 hours of sleep conclusion control of legs would help Neurontin Hi Everyone, I recently had a follow-up to my sleep study at the hospital and was prescribed Neurontin for leg twitching/spasms. The study results showed some sleep apnea, but was not out of the normal range enough to cause my many nighttime awakenings and sleepiness. They found that my leg twitching/spasming was what was really waking me up, and therefore the Neurontin prescription. I absolutely hate taking more meds than necessary and wanted to find out from all my friends about any of your experiences with Neurontin. I would like to know why it was precribed to you, the effect it had on you, good or bad, and the dosage you are on. Hope to hear from some of you. Thanks for your time in helping me try to figure out whether or not this would be beneficial to me. Take care. Sue Niquette
Guest guest
Hi Sue, Hope Dave contacts you- he had excellent results with Neurontin as I recall. I've been using quinine for my night time leg twitches and it helps a lot. Also like the baclofen pump since it gives me constant levels and doesn't wear off over night. Guest guest
Kurt I have limited range in both shoulders- my neuro thinks it's from my upper arm muscle weakness. I have a scrip for Vicodin one pill every night- it has helped a lot. I also have had steroid injections into the shoulder and that too was helpful with the pain. Guest guest
Kurt, I had shoulder pain in my right shoulder and I saw an orthopedist and he said it was frozen shoulder and said that he has seen that in other neurological patients but not sure why it happens. He gave me some excercises to do and it helped a lot. I got my range of movement back. Sometimes it hurt so much that I could not even lift my arm for several minutes especially after I used it to break a fall. My right shoulder got better and now my left shoulder is bad. If doesn't hurt as much as the right one did but I did lose a lot of range. Since I can't reach around my back, it's hell when I have an itch and putting on my bra is a struggle. I'm on Bacofen for the fasiculations in my legs and for cramping but it really hasn't helped a lot. Guest guest
Hello Sue, I used Neurontin for almost a year. After starting it, I did notice that my nighttime leg twitches and daytime muscle twitches went away. I gradually worked my way to 300 mg per day and my neurologist stated that studies showed pts could safely take up to 1400 mg per day. I never reached that level and I believe subconsciously I refused to take that large volume of any medication. The Neurontin did make me feel a little groggy at first, but rarely did it force me to take a nap. Conversely, when I previously used Zanaflex even at low dosages, I was falling asleep almost immediately. Presently, I'm not taking Neurontin because after almost a year, I told my neuro that I really didn't feel any less spastic. He said it was probably working more than I realized, but offered to put me back on Baclofen, my original spasticity medication. I did not tolerate the baclofen very well either the first time around. It made me feel very "stupid", e.g., having to add simple numbers several times and it also made my legs very wobbly and Jell-O-like. However, I agreed to try it at a lower dosage and gradually increase from a smaller to a larger dosage. I've been on the baclofen now for about 3 months and have titrated to 10 mg, 3 times per day. I don't have that wobbly feeling in my legs, nor the cognitive impairment; both are noted side effects. Results: I do feel "less" spastic, but as we all know, the spasticity isn't totally eliminated. I rarely feel groggy due to the medication. I always take my 3rd pill at night just before bed and I sleep very well throughout the night. I will also mention that after returning to the baclofen, I've begun to have more vivid and "weird" dreams. I'm not having hallucinations as others have mentioned, but they are different than dreams I've had in the past. Honestly, there may be no connection between the medication and the dreams, but I definitely recall having "different" dreams after starting the meds again. They now occur much less frequently. Lastly, I take no other medications. I'm not a physician, but I would surmise that taking a combination of drugs "may" make one drug act differently on different people depending on their physical makeup and tolerance of certain combinations of medications. Hope this proves helpful. (DE) Neurontin Hi Everyone, I recently had a follow-up to my sleep study at the hospital and was prescribed Neurontin for leg twitching/spasms. Guest guest
Prior to my PLS diagnosis, when I was first had symptoms of falling, my arm shoulder and neck had severe pain anytime I tried to move it. My neurologist at the time kept saying it must be part of whatever mystery disease I had. He put me on vicoden and after three months I was up to 5 per day! I went to an osteopath and explained my symptoms through the tears. He took an old fashion x-ray which revealed a large calcium build up between my shoulder one and rotator cuff. I saw an orthopedic surgeon immediately - a single shott of cortizone relieved all the pain. Six months of physical therapy broke up the calicium and I now have a full range of motion back. The calicium grew because I had damaged the rotator cuff slightly in one or more of my falls. Back then I always seem to land on the same side for each fall. Now if I have any pain I make sure I rule out any physical injury before I push the neurologist for a medication or neuro explanation. We have enough to deal with, pain shouldn't be one of them. I keep up some exercises I learned at PT for strength. Painfree, Lynn > I was on 300mg of Neurontin for shoulder pain and it made my thinking kind of cloudy. Guest guest
Hello, I am new here, but thought I'd tell you about the side effects that I had on Neurontin. I was very dizzy and my vision was blurred. I was on it two weeks ago, but after about four days on it (100 mg at three times per day), I couldn't walk straight. I was taken off of it and then tried Effexor. That gave me severe insomnia and migraine since I was only sleeping two hours a night. Tomorrow I start Desipramine. I am hoping to tolerate it. Best of luck with the Neurontin. I am told that it is excellent and most people do not have severe side effects. Tonya ----- Original Message ----- From: jenniferwoll@... Guest guest
Hi! I have a LOT of experience with Neurontin. I take 3600 mg. a day. Of course this amount has gradually built up over the years. When I was hospitalized 4 times in 1999 they made sure that I had Neurontin every day. I also take Zanaflex, Skelaxin, Darvocet, Naproxyn,Elavil & Evista. Please feel free to ask more questions if you need to. Beth

Guest guest
Hi , I take Neurontin. It can help with a couple of things, mainly pain that is, well, from nerves?/? I don't know if I'm explaining it right, in fact I'm quite sure I'm not. Anyway, my neuro said it might help my excessive yawning and feeling of not being able to get a good breath. And it did help. I slowly, and the key here is slowly, worked up to 1200 mg per day, now I'm slowly working up to double that. I'm currently taking 1500 mg per day. At first I was sleepy from them, but now I don't have that affect at all. Happy Thanksgiving to you. I found mine quite fulfilling! Pun intended! Guest guest
, My neuro put me on Neurontin after I had tried unsuccessfully to use Baclofen & Zanaflex. Initially, baclofen made it difficult for me to add even the simplest of numbers and made my legs like jello. The zanaflex put me to sleep within minutes of taking it. We tried neurontin for almost 8 months and I really didn't feel as though it was helping my spasticity. However, my neuro said it was probably helping more than I realized; an obvious result was that the fasiculations in my limbs stopped. Now, i am back on a lower dosage of baclofen (10 mg 3 x's per day) and it seems to help with the spasticity, although it doesn't " eliminate " it. Others have had varying results with these three meds. Expect to hear more from others. Also, the one thing I liked about neurontin is that it did NOT make me drowsy. Guest guest
STEPHANIE, IT COULD BE A STELLATE GANGELION BLOCK & COMPARED TO ALL THE PAIN (SEVER) WE'VE BEEN IN I NEVER FEEL IT, AND I DON'T GET PUT TO SLEEP SO I CAN TELL THEM WHETHER OR NOT I STILL HAVE THE PAIN IN THAT PARTICULAR AREA. THE MRI IS WHERE YOU GET PUT IN SOMETHING LIKE A TUNNEL, THE ONE THEY DID ON ME MY HEAD DIDN'T EVEN GO IN & I HAVE A SPINAL CORD STIMULATOR AND OF COURSE THERE WERE ABOUT 5+ PEOPLE IN THERE WITH ME, BECAUSE IT COULD HAVE CAUSED ME PROBLEMS. THERE IS THIS BANGING LIKE NOISE & THAT WAS THE WORSE PART FOR ME (MIGRAINES) WITH THEM EVERYTHING IS MAGINIFIED. I'VE HAD MANY BLOCKS & HAVE LIVED TO TELL ABOUT THEM & SO WILL YOU. SWEETIE DON'T SIT & CONCENTRATE ON THESE TESTS OR YOU WILL MAKE YOURSELF CRAZY. THIS IS THE ONE MOST IMPORTANT THAT GET'S ME THROUGH EACH BLOCK & EVERYTHING ELSE THEY HAVE DONE IS: I PUT MY FOCUS ON GOD & PRAY THE WHOLE TIME THAT THEIR WORKING ON ME AND I KNOW HE'S RIGHT THERE WITH ME AND I'M NOT THE LEAST BIT SCARED. GOD BLESS & LET US KNOW WHEN THEY SCHEDULE YOUR TEST & ASK THEM WHEN THEY CALL TO GIVE YOU SOME IDEAL ON WHAT THEIR DOING & IF IT'S GOING TO HURT & THEY'LL EXPLAIN. I HOPE I HAVE GIVEN YOU SOME PIECE OF MIND. HANG IN THERE SWEETIE MOST OF US ALREADY HAVE GONE THROUGH THIS MANY TIMES.
