Guest guest
Steve - thanks for the info -- how do you suppose the makers of Splenda get away with their advertising??? "Splenda is made from sugar" or something like that? We just can't believe those commercials! Thats exactly right. It's like when they say honey is natrual. Most things break down to sugar we havefound but that doesn't mean we can eliminate it entirely unless we are diabetics but we can control how much we can eat by being ise SBD'ers. ~~ in NJ~~ So Many Books, So Little Time Currently Reading:The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy Just Finished:Prince of Lost Places by Kathy Hepinstall (A-) The Other Boleyn Girl by a ( The Swalllows of Kabul by Yasmina Khadra (A) September by munde Pilcher (A) Fear of Frying by Jill Churchill ( The South Beach Diet Book By Arthur Agastson (B+) 3rd Degree by ©

Guest guest
I am very happy on SB, down 13 pounds in 8 weeks, and at least 2" off my waist... people notice something different (I also now have braces on my teeth at age 57!) Good for you Steve. You are not alone with the braces - our friend is an orthodontist and he says now more than half of his patients are adults. ~~ in NJ~~ So Many Books, So Little Time Currently Reading:The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy Just Finished:Prince of Lost Places by Kathy Hepinstall (A-) The Other Boleyn Girl by a ( The Swalllows of Kabul by Yasmina Khadra (A) September by munde Pilcher (A) Fear of Frying by Jill Churchill ( The South Beach Diet Book By Arthur Agastson (B+) 3rd Degree by ©
Guest guest
I've been using Splenda because it seems the least artificial tasting of all the diet sweeteners. Malitol/Maltitol which is in the La Nuouba candy isn't bad, but I haven't seen that available as a sugar substitute. I just looked at the creamsicles I bought yesterday and they are made with Phetalymine. So either the fat or the preservatives or sugar substititues may be our undoing. Guest guest
The links off of the article gives you a nice long list of products that have Splenda in it to make it easier for shopping. That part I liked. The rest of it is BS. If what he's saying is true, we shouldn't be drinking tap water since there's chlorine in it. Splenda.... what do you all think? http://mercola.com/2004/mar/31/splenda_reaction.htm What do you think of this article? Chris Reminder: The South Beach Diet is not low-carb. Nor is it low-fat. Or you could filter your water to remove chlorine, have a shower filter so you don’t bathe in it, etc. That’s what we do. Chlorine is not good for you, that part is true. How that translates to Splenda I have no clue.

I've been using Splenda because it seems the least artificial tasting of all the diet sweeteners. Malitol/Maltitol which is in the La Nuouba candy isn't bad, but I haven't seen that available as a sugar substitute. Once I lose the weight I want to lose, I'm going back to unrefined sugar. I don't use that much, just a spoonful in coffee or tea. Kath ... Guest guest
I've read that article many times... that is one the reasons I don't use artificial sweeteners (and please, everyone, SPLENDA is an artificial sweetener, unlike sugar, honey, etc. that occur naturally). I am one of those who cannot tolerate aspartame (headaches and bouts of depression), Splenda (chest pains and palpitations --- don't laugh, it happens to many according to the article). So I've learned to take my coffee black, my yogurt fat free and plain, and so on. Every now and then I indulge in a bite or two of something sweet (sugar, of course) and my cravings seem to be satisfied (strange, since I grew up with my family of professional pastry chefs!) I am very happy on SB, down 13 pounds in 8 weeks, and at least 2 " off my waist... people notice something different (I also now have braces on my teeth at age 57!) Life is good..... LOL...... I do believe that artificial sweeteners can have many negative health effects, and they certainly don't have nutritional value. Sugars like pure maple syrup, molasses, and rapadura still have some mineral and vitamin content. Chris

Guest guest
Further reading and research by all seems prudent on this issue. If you have difficulties with artificial sweeteners, don't use them... use them sparingly if you tolerate them. Let's try to keep this issue balanced... some SB dieters have called the reports " BS " ... I believe there is SOME truth to our concerns and we must take our healt seriously. With what has been happening in our business world lately (ie: greed, scandal, etc) I am becoming more and more skeptical of what we are lead to believe. Here is a website with some more insight (be sure to click on the link for peoples' stories about their reactions... there are some positive ones) http://www.foodanddiet.com/NewFiles/splenda.html Steve
