Guest guest
Debbie, Calm down girl! :-) You need to give yourself a medal not " Hate " yourself. As Dr. (Name slips away but a well known DAN Dr. of " One Tack/Two TAck " Theory fame) says " Your child is the best lab " - Observe and make adjustments. Just count yourself lucky to be on this wonderful list where none of us know ALL the answers but we can all make potentially meaningful suggestions - Try them cautiously, observe, learn, ask, make adjustments, observe, learn, ask, make adjustments, observe, learn,.................. That is why you (and most on this list) are better than most doctors - We admit we don't know it all and that every child is different. Once we think we know it all and start to adopt a " one size fits all program " we are going to real damage to a significant portion of our kids. Having said that, this is my take on what I would do and some of the reasons: I would start very slowly with a low dose DMSA to remove mercury (and lead) - mercury is probably there but you possibly won't see any in the hair while the arsenic and lead is so high and maybe won't see it in the urine either until much of the lead is gone - Remember, the lead is as bad as the mercury and the arsenic replaces the selenium in the cells which stops the cells natural ability to produce glutathione, which is necessary for the body to naturally detox heavy metals. I would NOT use ALA or DMPS since they cross the blood Brain barrier and can do all sorts of bad things to children whose bodies have heavy toxic loads. Wait until the toxic load in the body is down quite a bit. Also, spend more on the treatment of the problem (ie. detoxing) than runnig tests otherwise you may quit to soon (ie when the money runs out rather than when the problem is solved). You know your son has lead, arsenic, etc. - DMSA is great for getting rid of lead and ALA will get rid of Arsenic and probably much other stuff will go out at the same time. Rather spend your money on the other vital tests to make sure your son is getting what he needs (ie. minerals, vits, efa's, etc) Occasional testing of urine will show your overall progress but your observations will tell you more about when you need to increase/decrease, etc. Finally, don't overreact to regression - I believe most people on the list will tell you stories (mostly different) about regression in their children before significant progress was made but by asking, thinking, observing, changing dosage/supplements, etc. they have been overcome. The differences speak to just how different our children are so as Dr. Sidney Baker (Aha! His name came to me.) - " Your child is your best lab! " - Just remember not to try to create the atom bomb/silver bullet in your lab but rather to take small steps toward the eventual solution - and the sooner the better for you and your child......... and mankind! I have read the other wonderful answers to your questions, just take this in along with the rest as you search for YOUR child's solutions and keep us posted. Best wishes, 2002 is going to be a wonderful year for you and your family, I just know it! Much love, ken P.S. I have not been very active on this list for a long time but I have read almost every post and continued my 9+ years of research. Mainly because of my own " Hatred " of myself for not being able/clever/devious/eloquent/sly/dedicated/convincing/determined/etc. enough to convince my wife to be more supportive of my efforts to help my 13 year old daughter as I see her wonderful strides made begin to slip backwards or not progress as quickly or much as I know she could. She remains though, a wonderful daughter and the light of my life. Hate myself - maybe, but probably not, but I am not going to give up and I hope you won't either! Yes, I am crying as I write this but 2002 is going to be a wonderful year as we all learn that there is NO single correct answer to all of life's challenges!!! Happy New Year to everyone on this list and especially your children. There's some disagreement as to whether DMSA does or not but pretty overwhelming evidence that DMPS does not. Gaylen
