Guest guest
Diane, You're right. Public schools are into revisionist history, so the public has no idea what we actually started with. We home schooled our 19 year old, who is doing great at university now, and we are homeschooling our 15 year old. We have to teach our kids this stuff ourselves, or they will never hear it. I had to teach myself, too! I went to public school. From: rd-usa [mailto:rd-usa ] On Behalf Of Diane Preves M.S., R.D. The problem is the vast majority of people are no longer in touch with these facts, will never hear them perhaps in their entire lives, and so much of the public listens to and participates in debates which are removed from this basis. I, for one, intend to continue to educate my children both from this basis and to also encourage them to be as fully aware as possible of the direction and " sides " of the arguments in this country in which they now find themselves living because it is going to be their task as well as ours to contribute where we can to the direction of the country. Guest guest
, I also have homeschooled 3 boys (oldest now in college--did great through 12th grade in homeschooling, 99+%ile on PSAT, perfect 800's SAT's, and yes, everybody loves him and he has never had enough time in his social calendar for all the people he is constantly involved with--the common criticism of homeschooling being they cannot be " socialized " ). Middle guy now in public school with ex-husband as custodial parent, but his ears are " perked up " when he listens to the news and recognizes clearly when things are not right. Youngest guy, currently homeschooling, has more discernment than many-a-college student. But all of our children--public, private, and homeschooled--are going to have to make their own choices about where the direction of this country that will be theirs is headed. Guest guest
Its a shame what they don't study today, what the kids don't know. Again, if I didn't give my daughter " extra assignments " to broaden her knowledge, she would not know or be aware of the world around us.... Guest guest
Glad to hear the stories of your homeschooled kids, Diane. My oldest homeschooler in college, has friends literally all over the world and has never stepped foot inside a public school, other than university. He just got back from New Zealand where he spent two weeks at his sports sponsor's expense competing at the World Unicycle Championships. (Placed in the top ten overall in events he competed in.) This is his second overseas event. I've never been off the continent! Dave Quoteworthy: " What the politicians are offering is for the massively indebted U.S. government to pay all the medical bills, no matter how small. It's not about health, but about sickness. And it is not insurance. Insurance is about major, unpredictable expenses. Our auto insurance (which we pay for ourselves) does not cover gas, oil, tires, maintenance and depreciation. So why do we keep electing leaders who keep running up bills that they can't pay, who borrow from the Chinese and pass the resulting debts to our children and grandchildren to pay? We have to pay for these additional benefits ourselves if we want them. " -Bert McLachlan From: rd-usa [mailto:rd-usa ] On Behalf Of Diane Preves M.S., R.D.
