Guest guest
Memory loss! Yes! My thought process to even speak correctly is altered. I notice some days are better than others. I can be talking and what word I need to say, just doesn't come out. I forget the right words to use. Now I really am an airhead. :0 Kathi pap tt dx 1998 lymphnode involvement
Guest guest
, Hey, there! I'm and I live in Maine (North Yarmouth) also! I have a 15 month old son born at 30 weeks due to placenta abruption/preterm labor (mag sulfate stinks). I'm wondering if we were both at Maine Med. Maybe we'll be swapping ob stories! Glad your son was okay and welcome to the group. new to group Hi there- My name is and I've been lurking in the group for a week and thought it was time to introduce myself. I'm a 27yr old nurse, I live in Maine and have a 17 month old son named n. I discovered I had a BU during my first ultrasound when I was 6 weeks pregnant. I had no idea prior to that time that there was anything wrong. Of course, I started to read about BU in pregancy and feared the worst- I would lose the pregnancy. However, I was fine until 22 weeks. I started contracting and by 24 weeks was hospitalized and put on the the big drugs to stop labor. I was on bedrest/house arrest for 10 weeks and delivered (c/s breech) at 36 weeks. He was 6lb 15oz and the most beautiful baby How I wish this group was around when I was pregnant! I would have felt so much better. I laugh reading about misshapen tummies- you could definitely tell I had a breech stuck in half a uterus. Poor guy was wedged in there tight. Sorry to ramble but I just wanted to say hi! Guest guest
Welcome to the group and I am sorry about your test. I bled the entire first trimester and I was told I would fail the AFP test because the protein in my blood would be messed up due to the constant bleeding. Maybe that is what is happening in your case, ask your dr. Original Message: ----------------- From: labmom3333 jeanneambrose@... My first was breech but Dr was able to turn him-had
normal delivery w/ him. @nd was transverse--same thing-turned him.
When I was pregnant w/ 2nd I couldn't remember my last period so Dr
did ultrasound to determine due date and found other sac that had
something in it--called it a vanishing twin b/c sac was right next to
sac w/ fetus. Now I have a bicornuate uterus. Had lots of bleeding
in first trimester, put on some bedrest then limited activity until
12 weeks pregnant. Now my AFP test has come back high--at risk for
spina bifida. Nurse said that might happen, also said that with 2 nd
baby but test was fine. I am very worried about chance of birth
defect. I have ultrasound 1/22/02. Wondering if any correlation
btwn bicornuate uterus, other sac and high AFP test results.

Guest guest
Hello and welcome, I can sympathize - I have a BU and had lots of bleeding in my first trimester and also got a high AFP, which was very scary. I suspect that what you have is a false positive, *not* a birth defect. My daughter was fine, and I think I might skip that AFP test next time. My perinatologist told me that people who have some bleeding in their pregnancy tend statistically to have high AFP results. I don't think you should worry (but I know it's hard not to). Best of luck to you! Ula labmom3333 wrote: Now my AFP test has come back high--at risk for spina bifida. Nurse said that might happen, also said that with 2 nd baby but test was fine. Guest guest
I just wanted to update everyone. I had the Level 2 U/S yesterday-- they said 95% chance no neural tube defects/spina bifida. They offered amnio for 99% chance but I declined. Doctor said he felt confident that there were no defects and high reading was from bleeding, And baby is a boy! # 3 for us. Last baby for me. I will be 34 when I deliver and this pregnancy has taught me that I have been blessed with my 2 boys and soon to be 3rd baby. I wanted to say thanks for all your support during those 8 days of waiting. My best to all of you. > > > > Now my AFP test has come back high--at risk for > > spina bifida. Guest guest
, What a relief! I'm glad that everything is fine. I have heard so many false postive results from AFP - what a nightmare. And another boy...WOW! I hope everything continues to go well for you. Sara
