Guest guest
Welcome to the group, Sharon. You'll find lots of useful information here....although it sounds like you already have a lot of 'experience' with thyca. I note that you are going to DC for testing (NIH??). We have a number of others with tough cases who have gone to NIH, so hopefully some of them will chime in with their experiences. Also...are you aware of the upcoming Annual Thyca Conference which is also in D.C.? It is in Sept and details can be found on the website at www.thyca.org Great speakers (some of which may be your Drs. at NIH). The Conference schdule reads like a Who's Who of top thyroid cancer Drs. and you might consider attending if DC isn't too far for you. Guest guest
Polly... It sounds like before, you guys didn't have a lot of fine tuning options. This parents on this list are a miracle at ferreting out ways to fine tune to improve control. One thing that jumped out at me is the weight loss. Many people don't have good control if they are burning their own fat (weight loss). Maybe her calories needed adjusting so she just maintained. If she had a little weight to loose, then maybe riding it out at the lower cals until she was around the 50%tile would have helped. Also, like Jen pointed out, many people don't get good control until the meds are gone. I've heard this over and over on the list during the past year. It takes a HUGE leap of faith to continue with a med wean in the face of increased seizures, but I've seen parents tough it out to be rewarded with much less seizure activity. While that's certainly not always true, it does happen often. If she can handle another attempt, I bet she can find a decent amount of control with fewer meds on the diet. So glad the list is helpful! I wouldn't still be doing the diet if it weren't for all the help and support I got from the other parents when I joined the squish list. I also get lots of help from my comoderators, Patti and Heidi! Guest guest
Hi ,Nice to meet you. I'm new here too. Hopefully we'll figure things out. It's a real plus to be able to talk to people working with this. Talk to you soon,Sylvie Good Morning. I am new to the board and to IE. I'm a 41 year old SAHM of 3 boys (our oldest is 4 1/2 and the twins are 22 months). I have dieted my entire life. Up, down, up, down..you know. The following is not to blame, b/c I don't, it just lays the ground work to my situation today. I am the youngest of 8 kids (six brothers and 1 sister) and was overweight as a child and was put on a diet at an early age so I was made to be aware of myself and food from early on. I wasn't encouraged to be active either. And when I finally was encouraged to get physical it wasn't by example. Being the youngest of a large male dominated family I often felt alone so I sought company and comfort through food. Thus, the ground work to binge and compulsive eating. My husband and children are at normal weights. I have been noticing how the kids eat and then stop when they are satisfied and leave food on their plates. My husband will pass on a cookie becasue he's not hungry. WOW! So I began reading 2 books by Geneen Roth and utimately been led to here. Today I started listening to my body and it is actually liberating. I look forward to meeting all of you. Be mindful, -- Sylvie... working on it!Sylvie... je travaille là-dessus!The Solution : Kit 4 - Week

Guest guest
My name is Cara. I am a 28 year old from Minnesota. I have been overweight most of my life. A couple years ago, I lost 50 pounds just through eating less and exercising more, but now the pounds are starting to creep back on because I've been eating when I am not hungry and also to suppress my emotions. I read Geneen Roth's books this summer and I think that approach she describes makes a lot of sense. I want to committ myself to eating intuitively and that's the reason I joined this group. Guest guest
Would you believe when I went to the post office yesterday, the book I ordered was there. Hurray. It's called The Body-Signal Secret, by Strauss and North. So didn't have to worry about not having it for week 4. I only paid $1 for it and $3 something shipping. Can't complain with that and it's hard back too. So, here I am snacking at the computer again. Oh well, little steps. your friend, Debbie http://knittingdeb.blogspot.com

Guest guest
Yes, I get mine at Amazon also. It was an old book to start, early 90's, and it was used. There were several for $1, and I picked one that looked new. The first one said it had been written in. The one I got is like new. So. go to Amazon and see.
