Guest guest
Me again. . . with B6 questions. Due to hyperactivity, I took 's B6 dose down from 100 mg. to 75 mg. So far so good, seizure-wise, but the hyperactivity continues. At her day camp, they say that the mornings are horrible (she's getting B6 in the morning) and the afternoons are good. My next step -- tomorrow -- is going to be to take away the morning dose. Another thing I'm wondering about is if the B6 needs to be better balanced with other vitamins/minerals. So, I'm back to looking at the Hypoallergenic Nu-Thera by Kirkman Labs again. What bugs me is that they use P5P -- a super version of B6 -- and nobody seems to be getting a straight answer as to how much B6 this equates to. Questions: * Does anyone have any experience with the P5P -- positive or negative? * Does anyone know of anything similar to the Hypoallergenic Nu-Thera that has the megadose of B6, balanced with other Bs, magnesium, etc. -- that uses straight B6, as opposed to the P5P. I know that Kirkman makes the Super Nu-Thera, but that has carbs and fillers which aren't going to work with the keto diet -- plus I've heard a few people on this list who have not had good experiences with it. Appreciate any thoughts. . . don't know if it's coincidence or not, but since starting the B6, the seizures have taken a hiatus. . . day by day. . ..who knows when they might come back. . . but, if the B6 is helping, it would be great. . .we just need to get her calmed down (of course, some of this could still be related to the Lamictal wean -- yet another variable. . .. but this latest round of hyperactivity has really coincided with the introduction of the B6).--DeEtte
Guest guest
DeEtte, To add another bunch of stuff into the mix, I am just curious if you or anyone else who might be reading this, has heard of 5HTP supplements? It is supposed to be great for calming and raising seratonin levels..... which would be wonderful for an SI involved kid like Katera. She is not hyper-active because she is not very mobile but she is really stressed out a lot of the time and bites her fingers and yells, etc. Anyway, I am just wondering if anyone knows anything about it's safety or whether anyone is using it with kids. I'm lazy and haven't researched it in depth yet. Kirkman also sells a product called GABA, which I bought and tried with Katera..... also supposed to be for calming. I didn't see any noticeable effect and I stopped using it when I didn't see any change plus, someone had posted here warning not to supplement single amino acids with the Keto diet (which is what GABA is). OK, anyway..... I think maybe we *might* be seeing a tidge more of the "stressed out" behaviors with Katera since starting NuThera but, we also have seen her run her last fever and have NO seizure..... plus, she is still sleeping fine at night so I'm keeping it up. I am giving her 1 full cap in the morning and a half at lunch, none at dinner. I know it's confusing about the dosage on the P5P..... I think if I were you, I would rely on what their chemist says. Have you talked to him? If you call them and ask to speak to him, they will have him call you back. Maybe you could discuss the whole thing with him and see what his thoughts are on the balancing issue and the dosages. patti B6/P5P? Me again. . . with B6 questions.
