Hi Marie,

This reminds me of something else I read. The brain itself is a " Radioresistive "

organ. I found this surprizing as I thought the brain would be very sensitive to

radiation. This is old news but it is good news to the RS types.

" Radiosensistive " organs are the heart, kidneys and a few more that I forgot!

Bone marrow was listed as very Radiosensistive. Nerves were not listed but I

suspect they are Radiosensistive.

This was out of the latest issue of the Brain Tumor mag, thought some might

find it interesting.

" Tremendous developments in computer assisted technologies advanced not only

neurosurgical practices but radiation therapies as well. The ability to

create three dimensional models of the tumor within the brain allows for

elaborate planning and delivery of focused beams of radiation in controlled

doses. The challenges now lie in incrasing the effectiveness of those

radiation treatments. Radioresistance studies are looking at the amounts of

growth factors found on the surface of tumor cells and also exploring metods

of genetically altering both p53 levels (a gene thought to control natural

cell death) and oxygen levels in tumor cells to increase radiosensitivity.

Still other studies are developing radioactive substances which serve as

" tags " or " tracking devices " in the delivery of genetic products to tumor

cells. "
