Welcome. Nice meeting you! Sorry you got scared by that lady. Life is what you make it. It sure can feel like you don't want to try but the next day is better. We're here for ya. Ask any questions. That's how you learn. Shirleyjyeagley wrote: Thank you for all of the posts welcoming me. For a little bit about myself, I am a 36 year old female. I have been married for 14 years

to a great guy named Lane. I have 3 boys 21, Curtis 20 and Cody 17. I live in Alliance, Ohio. I was diagnosed with MS on October 27, 2006 after 2 MRI's, 2 EMG's and a spinal tap. It started in February when my left hand, arm, neck and side of head went numb. I went to my doctor and he said it was probably a pinched nerve due to extreme amounts of stress, he gave me nerve pills and sleeping pills. Went back after a couple weeks and he still didn't order any test just more pills. I went to a Chiropractor for a few weeks and he eventually ordered an MRI of my neck which showed a lesion and was suspicion for MS. I then went to a neurologist who ordered a MRI of my brain and an EMG test. The MRI showed lesions but did not appear to be a demylinating disease so the neurologist said he really didn't know what it was but maybe some kind of stroke, he said the hand would get better and didn't even order a follow up

visit. After 8 months and no improvment my internal medicine doctor found me an awesome neurologist who ordered another EMG and the spinal tap (horrible experience) and found out it was MS. I did 5 days I.V. steroids, 12 days oral steroids, and started Betaseron on November 6. At first I was terrified. When I went for my first I.V. there was a woman there who was 42 and in secondary progressive stage and she had me scared to death. She cried the whole time and told me how horrible her life was. It took me a few days to get over that encounter. I am still scared but I am just grateful for everyday that I wake up. It could be worse. I have just found a local support group but they do not meet until January. I am more concerned with how this could effect my family if I have alot of problems. I look forward to meeting everyone online and have already read alot of good information in the posts. Thanks again and sorry

this is so long.

Jocelyn,

Welcome, I've been diagnosed since May of 1984. MS can surely cause some problems at times especially when newly diagnosed. However, a lot of that is due to fear of the unknown.

It takes a little time to learn that many potential and fearful problems may not occur at all. Live in the present and prepare for the future by educating yourself regarding ms. It is certainly not the end of a normal life. Adjustment....yes but not much different than any other adjustment caused by life's experiences.

There is no reason that you cannot and will not have a happy, productive and active life.

There is a lot that you can do to help yourself.

Everything in this life involves making choices....you can choose to make the best of your circumstances or you can choose to do the opposite....Learn as much as you can....do it slowly so you do not get overwhelmed with the wealth of information that is available. Go to www.copingandprevailing.com If you cannot afford to pay for the book send me your mailing address and I will send it to you.

Fear not...you can handle MS.

Regards,

Tom

I wanted to thank everyone for the warm welcome to the

group. I hope

everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. Mine was wonderful. I didn't feel

too good after dinner (still adjusting to the meds) but everyone

jumped in and helped clean up. It has been unseasonably warm here and

I am loving it. Enjoy your weekend all.

Thanks for the welcome. I am sorry you had so many problems this summer. How long ago were you diagnosed? I live in northeast Ohio and the weather has been gorgeous. It has been low 60's the last few days and is supposed to continue for the next few. I'll take it, before long the snow will fly. My youngest son is getting ready to start wrestling season. I can't wait, I love to go watch. My older 2 are out of school. The oldest just got married this summer and inherited a step-son. He is 4 and I just have so much fun with him. Is anyone else from the Ohio area? Just got back from shopping and am completely worn out. It was nice to have my husband home for 4 days straight. He has a lot of back problems and has been kinda miserable this weekend but it was still nice that he could be home. I better go for now. Have a great weekend! Trimm wrote: Sorry I haven't welcomed you yet. I am also 36 and I have 2 children, Kaleb who is 13 and who is 5. I was really bad off this summer but right now I'm in the remitting stage. the only thing that's really bad is I still have to self cath. I'm a nurse and work for a home health company and have been on call this Thanksgiving weekend. I volunteered because my kids always spend Thanksgiving with my ex and I get them for Christmas. I remarried 2 years ago to a real great guy. We live in a small town in Northeast Texas and the kids usually keep me busy with basketball, cheerleading, baseball, and

running here and there. 'jyeagley <jyeagley> wrote: I wanted to thank everyone for the warm welcome to the group. I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. Mine was wonderful. I know . That is why I have been

trying to go outside as much as possible. I saw that rain is forecast for

tomorrow. Just in time for me to have car pool lane duty J

I am going to take the dog out this

afternoon for a nice stroll before tomorrow’s back to grind starts.
