Guest guest
South Beach lets you have more fruits and veggies which I love. Gardening is my favorite hobby and it seems a shame to have to watch what I eat while I am pulling weeds. I am one of those people that like to go out to my garden and sample what I grow. In the summer I am alway tasting my herbs out of my herb beds and snow peas are SO good right off the vine. I also like to grow several different varieties of tomatoes. I love tomatoes and I WILL be eating some of them this summer no matter what diet I am on. I also have red and black raspberries, 3 apple trees, a cherry tree and just planted a strawberry patch last year. Atkins limits vegetables and fruits more than South Beach. Since I have not studied the Atkins diet in much depth, maybe you could help me. I hope you don't mind. What have you noticed are the similarities and/or the differences in these two diets? What has caused you to desire to change from one to the other? Thank you (and good-luck).Vie> I am almost ready to switch and will probably do my shopping this weekend, but I want to ask if anyone here has made the switch from Atkins to South Beach. I am a little worried about all of a sudden increasing my carbs. I am afraid of gaining instead of losing. Has anyone else here made the switch and did you lose in the first 2 weeks? Thanks so much, Joyce D.Reminder: The South Beach Diet is not low-carb. Nor is it low-fat. The South Beach Diet teaches you to rely on the right carbs and the right fats-the good ones-and enables you to live quite happily without the bad carbs and bad fats. Guest guest
I was doing great on Atkins before Christmas, but haven't lost anything since. South Beach lets you have more fruits and veggies, but restricts fat so I would like to switch so that I can enjoy my garden stuff. My biggest worry is that after restricting my carbs so much that I will gain on South Beach. I was just wondering if anyone else had had success in switching. Ultimately I know that everyone is different and that the only way to find out is to switch myself. Thanks for telling me your experience, Joyce D. Re: Question about switching from Atkins to SB I did Akins for six weeks and then switched to SB. Having only been on SB for a week now, I probably don't have the indepth experience you are looking for but I can tell you why I did it.After three weeks of doing Atkins, I had lost 4lbs. Then I gained and lost the same two pounds over and over again (sometimes more). My husband was on the plan with me and was having the same problem. He was actually gaining weight. Cholesterol is an issue for him (genetically predisposed to high levels), so we were worried about that from the beginning. Around week five or so, we decided to cut out the red meat and sat fats but still do Atkins. However, I was getting frustrated with having given up foods and not getting results. In frustration one night, I had a bowl of berries. It was the best damn thing I had eaten in AGES and I realized how much I missed fruit and vegetables. Atkins may tell you to eat those 2-3 c of veggies a day, but we weren't and it was hard figuring out what would and wouldn't blow our carbs for the day. Plus, hubs got hooked on "frankenfoods" and other LC treats. Last week I ran into a friend who's been doing SBD since August of last year and looks GREAT! We talked at length about it and she had some great insights, especially since she had done Atkins before getting pregnant the previous year. We talked for hours about our challenges and she told me how SB was really good for her and how healthy she felt. I hadn't realized it until then, but in the back of my mind, I hadn't quite bought the Atkins line about any and every type of fat being good for you. I'm rambling here....bottom line: South Beach is more healthy, more easily fitted to our lives, more satisfying. My face was breaking out eating all the fat and my tummy was getting queasy. There are certain things I refuse to give up for SB...like real butter and bacon, but we eat that stuff sparingly or in small amounts. I miss chicken wings, tho. :)HTH!AmySan Diego(rambler)
