Guest guest
Deb: He weighs 27 kg (very skinny for his age). 1T didn't touch it and neither did 1.5T so I give between 1.75 and 2T and it works overnight. On the bottle we have it says for Laxative 2-4T for adults and for children 1/2-2T. As Antacid 1-3tsp for adults (no children's dose given). >Wow........I know the regular dose is supposed to be 1T for adults, but one >TEASPOON is all it takes for our son! How much does he weigh? Curiousity >might have killed the cat, it just uses up my time!! <G> Love, Deb _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

Guest guest
Ialso give half a teaspoon of mucilax (pysillium husks) at breakfast andlunch time. ine... Gimme more on the Pysillium husks.... has been on the diet over 4 years and I worry bout the lack of fiber. I have pysillium husks handy at home (I take a tbls in cranberry juice) and have been considering giving some. Do you calculate anything in dietwize?? It lists calories on the label but no carbs....I figure this is because its mostly bulk and not burnable carbs. just curious Barb....s mom
Guest guest
Dear Barb I give the psyllium husks as a powder. You don't have to allow for it in the kgd because it is not digested or retained by the body. The dietician recommended it. It is also gluten free and contains no chemicals. Jess has 1 x half teaspoon at breakfast and the same at lunch. Hope this is of some help. Cheers ine
Guest guest
Hi.... The only thing I can think of might be his weight...... our dietician states that they have the best seizure control for the kids that are down around the 25th %ile for weight. Maybe he needs to lose some more? Is he still on any meds? Sounds like you have done a good thing by going to six meals a day. It's a good sign that he is accepting his food more readily. If he was already in ketosis before you really started the diet, just with an increase in fats and proteins, it really makes me wonder. Maybe because he is so young, the diet will work differently for him and he doesn't need the higher ratio? I know that Nan's son, Sevi, seems to need a lower ratio for best control ..... and he started the diet fairly young. Keep hanging in there! And good luck with the HBOT..... that's something that I have in the back of my mind for Katera, too. Patti, mom to Katera Still fine tuning Hi,We are still going crazy here. It has almost been 2 months and wehaven't gotten good results yet. I have decided to follow the book andforget the dietitian. I really want this to work. Our dietitianstarted us with too many calories, lots more proteins then the bookrecommends as a high and our start up was not like the book recommended.I switched his proteins to 1.5 per kilo. is 17 months old andweighs 24 pounds 9 ounces, which is 35% on the growth chart. He is 323/4 inches long- which is 55% on the charts. He looks chubby. Hisactivity level is very small. He rolls and does push ups, andoccasionally stands in his walker. According to the book his cal perkilo were to be 75% of 90 if his activity level is average. Ourdietitian started us at 875. We dropped to 775 after 3 weeks because hegained 1.25 pounds. When we increased his ratio to 3.5 his seizuresdoubled. We went back down to 3:1 with some relief. We have switchedhim to 6 meals a day because of his refusal to eat and dropped another100 calories. Before we started the diet Nick was in ketosis because I added cream andprotein to his meals to help his weight loss. He was consuming 675calories ( according to the dietitian after viewing a 3 day meal log).He was having seizures 3 times a day.It has been 2 days and we are seeing more positive behavior. He eatshis meals instead of spitting it out and whiny because he was forcefed. Plus, I have company and they say they can't believe thedifference in how responsive he is. I don't notice as much because I amafter perfection. :-} One of his meals is ice cream made with egg yolksand cream. He loves it. It was taking me an hour to feed him each ofhis 4 meals before the change. He now eats his food in 20 minutes andseems to enjoy every bite. It is too early to tell if this is thechange we needed, but I am praying it is. We will find out when weweigh him Thurs. if it is too few calories. We are back down toseizures 5 times a day instead of 9 with the higher ratio. We are going to do Hyperbaric oxygen in August.Dianna "The Ketogenic Diet....a realistic treatment option, NOT just a last resort!" Guest guest
Patty, We got back our BHB from when Nick was on the 3.5:1. It was 7.93. My neuro was happy with that but Nick's seizures increased at that level. I thought 4-6 was good. Any thoughts? Dianna Patti wrote: Hi....
