Well, I'm now officially a Mommy! I had him Friday, December 7th at 8:40 PM by

c-section. Well, my due date was 12/04/01 and I was starting to feel like I

would never go into labor on my own. Well, hubby and I went to bed Thursday

night at 11:30 as we had been and a short 4 hours later, I awoke to nearly hear

a pop and feel my water break and I jumped out of bed [difficult for a pregnant

woman, especially from a waterbed!!] and ran to the bathroom. My husband asked

what I was doing and I told him that my water broke. About 20 minutes later [4

AM], I started feeling the contractions and I decided to take a shower. After I

got out of the shower, I started timing the contractions and they were clockwork

at 2 minutes apart but not painful...just a bit uncomfortable. So, we figured

we'd better head to the hospital. My family has a history of fast deliveries...I

was a first born and my mom was in labor for only 4 hours and my sister just had

her second baby [due the day after me but had her on the 3rd] and labored for 4

hours also. Well, I was about 2-3 cm dilated when we were checked in and hooked

up. I was moved to labor and delivery and by 7:30 am my contractions were very

painful and I caved into myself and asked for an epidural. I felt much better.

Well, I progressed well but by the afternoon, I was still sitting there and I

was about 7 cm. They kept checking and were 'debating' how much I was dilated

and believed that I had part of my cervix that was not dilating on one side.

Well, I had several different doctors coming in and trying to 'guess' too but

they determined that it was a septum [i'm BU...supposedly but only diagnosed via

ultrasound at 6 wks pregnant] and this was news to me because I didn't know or

think that I had a septum and I was beginning to doubt my BU also, being that I

went past my due date and all. They also did an u/s to see the baby's

positioning and they could see the septum in my uterus and that the baby was

face up instead of down. Well, they tried to do different things [have me lay

on one particular side only] to encourage my septum to move [or something] but I

didn't make any progress and to make matters worse, epidurals work with gravity

and if one side gets painful, you roll to the other side to get the medication

to 'fall' to the side that hurts but they didn't want me to do that and I was

hurting. Finally, another doctor came in and was checking me and was trying to

figure out about my septum and I had a contraction and he said that he could

feel that the baby wasn't even moving down during the contraction like he

should. He was down there [the baby] because the doctors all kept saying " well,

I can see hair " when they would check me. So he said that the best solution was

c-section and that the baby was a bit crooked and wasn't going to fit through

properly. So, I had a c-section and my baby was born at 8:40 PM..a boy, Austin,

at 8 pounds exactly and 20 1/2 inches long and lots of dark hair like his

daddy!! I'm still sore but every day I feel a little better but I remind myself

every time I look at my son that it was all worth it. Also, they said during

the section that they could see that my uterus was sectioned or segmented [can't

remember well now because of the medications] and that he was in the left side

of it. I have to have a follow up appointment with the doctor who did it [not my

regular doctor] and I hope to get a better idea of what my uterus looks like

since I think it sounds like it may not be a BU. Anyway, that's it for me but if

anyone wants to see a picture of my son, I don't have any to load but the

hospital took one and I have a password and all and you can see him. The website

is www.sparrow.org and you go to the Baby Online link and type in the username

of dousebaby and the password is Austin. Okay, that's if for now...I'm tired.
