b6 -- diarrhea?

Question: Can B6 cause diarrhea. I started my daughter on 50 mg. on

Saturday. So far (knock on wood) we've seen positive results -- no seizures

since starting it (and they had been daily), improved behavior and better

demeanor. Only problem is that she's had some pretty severe " runs " all day.

Just wondering if the B6 could be the problem and, if so, if there's

anything we can do about it.

Other possibilities would be:

* She gets a Calcium/Magnesium/Zinc supplement because she's on the

keto diet. I haven't changed the amount -- but I did split the dosage am/pm

to give her more magnesium closer to the time she's getting the B6, which

right now is in the morning.

* I had quite a bacterial infection a couple weeks ago -- not stomach,

more flu-like. . . but it could just plain be that she's coming down with

something (and perhaps that's why we saw the increased seizures).

* She's been swimming quite a bit the past few days. Typically, both

she and her sisters will have very loose stools after swimming -- of course,

this latest bout came nearly 24 hours later. . . so I think this theory is a

stretch.

Sorry to be discussing my daughter's BMs internationally here. . .but I just

really need to know if this could be a B6 side-effect. . .which will really

be a bummer!--DeEtte, Mom to (6, keto-kid since 1/01, med-free,

seizures significantly reduced. . . a lot the past week, but calmed down for

now) and (4), sdale, AZ

DeEtte,

Gillian is on 400mg B6 a day split into two doses and if anything

she's more constipated since the addition of the B6. It could be the

lamictal wean that caused her constipation to worsen too. Anyways B6

is working wonders over here. Gillians just cruising through her

lamictal wean twice as fast as before and no signs of withdrawal, no

siezures, no crying all day, nothing except constipation which we now

have under controll too.

More magnesium might be it...Jake couldn't handle CMZ every day, that gave

him the runs. He takes calci-mix 1/2 the week, CMZ the other. I alternate

every other day. He has a normal BM daily. I'm lucky I know.

Forgive my jumping in here, but B6 needs magnesium to process, and so with

addition of B6 you may need more magnesium than before to prevent

constipation. Love, Deb
