Guest guest
Hi, I went to my endo recently and had a TG and calcium test done. My TG had been undetectable during a thyrogen scan last September 2000 so now after 9 months my TG is .5 (normal) and calcium is 9.4. I had to call the nurse for the results. I didn't think normal was right for thyroid cancer patients. Next week I'm having a 24 hour urine test taken. She didn't tell me what that is for. Would it be to detect for kidney damage from being on high doses of calcium? I'm on 2100 mg a day plus Rocatrol. He wants me to come back for another body scan in December. I'm a little nervous for waiting so long as I have tall cell variant papillary ca. Shouldn't I be watched closer than that? Any comments? Thanks in advance. Joan TT 11/95 tall cell pap.ca RAI x 3 = 489 mCi total ..125 mg Synthroid TSH 0.
Guest guest
I had a 24 hour urine test to test for the iodide level in my urine output. This told my Dr how " saturated " my body was with iodine. I don't know where you are in your thyca journey but mine was done just before my RAI treatment. Hope that helps! Guest guest
That's what I thought a 24 hour urine test would be for too, to test how much iodide is in my body. But this is not the case. I had a thyrogen scan 9/00 which showed 5% uptake in my neck yet. I haven't had any CT w/contrast or anything. I guess I'll find out next week. Joan TT 11/95 tall cell pap.ca. Guest guest
There are many reasons why an endo may order a 24-hour urine test. Mine recently did this because the " in office " urine test indicated that I had protein in my urine. She then ordered a 24-hour urine to check the full extent of this problem. The results showed that everything was OK. So, it might have nothing to do with your RAI. --Chris 4/9/01 tt papillary w. follicular var RAI sch for 7/23/

Guest guest
Hi, Since you mention the 24 hour urine test in relation to your calcium level, I suspect that the purpose is to test the amount of calcium you are excreting. One of the reasons to do this is to be sure you are taking the right amount of calcium supplement. If you excrete too much, you increase your risk of kidney stones, as I understand it. Vern's urologist periodically orders the 24 hour test since his last kidney stone episode. Sounds like your MD is on top of things, lucky you!
