Re: Do you journal?

I journal on my online blog, I seem to be back and forth on that, but

lately I've started back with it more, since I've gotten my laptop and

with my home situation worsening.

I've kept food journals before, but like you, I always kind of leave

out the feelings part of it, which I'm sure would make it easier and

better for me. I would probably join into the journaling group if you

started it.

Hi Jenn,

I think journaling is a great idea. I like to write down the time I ate,

what I ate (but no weighing or measuring!), where I was on the hunger

scale when I started and finished, and any moods, thoughts or feelings. I

don't do it much these days, but when I feel I am getting off track I

like to go back to it.

Before I learned about IE, I was journaling what I was eating and

emotions at the time I was eating. It's because of this that I actually

discovered that I was a compulsive and emotional overeater. This was at

age 25, and I had been doing it since I was 8, but didn't recognize

it.

If you want any ideas for journaling, just let me know!

Thanks!

I'd like to journal more... I've kept a Food Log before, but never

really put in my feelings as they relate to IE or food. I think that,

doing that, I might " get " this a bit better. I think that's

where my

hinderance lies... in not listening to my EMOTIONAL reasons for

overeating / eating out of boredom or stress or whatever.

I'm also considering starting an IE_Journalers group.... ;o)

Honestly, after 9 months of journaling on Weight Watchers, the last

thing I want to do is journal about food.

I'll let you in on a secret though. I won't give up the scale. I

weigh myself every morning when I wake up. I have a weight range that

allows for fluid retention and other natural fluctuations. If my

weight hangs at or near the top of the range for more than a couple of

days or if it pops over it, I take the time to sit down and mentally

review my eating patterns for the previous few days? Was I eating

beyond satiety? Was I really enjoying what I was eating? Was I eating

mindlessly? Was I eating from boredom or from emotions? By watching

the scale, I can see pretty quickly if I'm not following the principles

of IE and remind myself to not eat for the wrong reasons.
