Yes, I knew that, but I didn't know if they had dashes between them....I

don't have the BOS...I need to get that for my b-day.

Margaret,

I don't know who gave you this information, but BOS does not want Roman

numerals. GPA terminology and TPAL terminology are all shown with arabic

numbers. There is even a sentence stating, " " Roman numerals are not

appropriate. " pp. 240-241

Bev, First off, never, ever give out the patient's name, just say the patient.

Yes, there are dashes between the numbers. The patient is gravida 5, para

3-0-2-2. According to Vera Pyle, the first number is full-term deliveries, the

second is premature births, the third abortions or miscarriages, and the fourth

the number of living children. Hope this helps, Margaret

Belinda s is a 22-year-old white female gravida 5 para (are there

supposed to be dashes between these numbers???) 3022 status post-two

spontaneous abortions and one stillbirth child born at full-term, LMP 4/15/01.

Thanks. Bev

Bev, I knew it was a mistake when I saw it, as I know you have never done that

in the past. I made a point of saying that, though, just in case there are any

lurkers or new people to the list who may get the wrong idea. Margaret

Yes, I have always used dashes. BTW, my understanding is that BOS wants these

put in Roman numerals rather than Arabic, which I have never really understand.

Vera does have them as arabic numbers and I personally don't like the looks of

putting a group of four dashed numbers in Roman numerals. Also, I have never

known how to make a zero in Roman numerals. Just my opinion. I have seen in

that past where people have discussed this, but I have never understood it.

Peggy, I am so glad to hear that. I can only vaguely remember the discussion,

as it has been some time ago, but it was on this list. I don't remember who

said it was to in Roman numerals, just remember that I stayed out of the

discussion, since I do not have a BOS myself. Thanks for the information.

Margaret: I checked my BOS just to be sure and BOS does NOT say use Roman

numerals. Gravida and para are ALWAYS Arabic per BOS on p. 240-241. I

realize you don't have a BOS Margaret, but I put those page numbers there for

anyone reading this who does have a BOS. Hope this helps :)
