Guest guest
I have three suggestions, all of which I've used. 1) Get a workout buddy. If you have someone knocking on your door, you can't say no. 2) Visualize someone in your life, who is supportive, picking you up from your chair, and walking you out the door to exercise. You can get into this as much as you'd like. Such as, one person in your life is getting your keys, and warming up the car, another person is pulling at you to get out of your chair, another person is getting your workout clothes. How can you say NO to three people all pulling at you wanting you to do the same thing. Sound weird? Maybe, but whatever works. 3) The most difficult part about exercising is going from a resting state to an active state, I think. I always have alot more difficulty just getting myself to go do it than I do actually doing it. When I'm finally working out, it feels good and I enjoy it. So, what I do to get myself to just get out there to do it is to think about other things and not about the fact that I'm going to exercise. If my mind is involved in other things and my body is well on its way to do the workout before I'm even thinking about what I'm doing, by the time I think about what I'm doing I'm almost finished. 4) Just thought of one more. Come up with a reward you really, really want and can only have if you lose the weight. Keep that thought in front of you...every day...to motivate yourself to do what you need to do to lose the weight. I know many of these probably sound weird, but they've worked for me. Terri Loathe Exercise!-Help! Geez guys, I keep telling myself everyday that I am going to do it but I don't. I did do it about 4 times last month but then I just didnt keep up with it. It is not something that I just get excited to do or make time for. Please, if anyone has any good tips or suggestions, I would love you sharing them with us all. I know that it is really good for you but I just can't seem to make myself. I dread it SO much! Spanking myself for being bad!!! Guest guest
i used to be exactly like you, I hated the mere thought of exercise! But, I tried several things out until I found something that I enjoyed and got hooked. For me it is walking and Tae-Bo tapes, and Kathy tapes...she is wonderful and has tons of tapes out there with every imaginable need in mind. THere is something for everyone in her line up. I got hooked on Tae Bo because it is challenging and FUN! I punch and kick and think of people that I hate, it's so much stress relief. But before I found that I liked these things I tried tons of exercises, gave them all a few days to a week, then knew it wasn't for me...didn't hold my attention, wasn't enjoyable, whatever. Eventually I found what I like and now just try to rotate and vary them. I suggest trying different things, no committments to stick forever, and eventually you will find things that you can get into. This may not work for you, but it did for me! Guest guest
just wanted to add one important key: don't let time lapse between not liking one and starting another. Just keep going, keep changing until you find some things to do regularly. This way you're still losing weight while you're searching. Guest guest
I think repitition is the key to maintaining on a new eating program or exercise , whatever it is your trying to take control of.....the first day is hard, it is HELL but then the second is just a bit easier then 3rd even better and so on and so forth, i have been on WW now for 14 days now and i have lost 14 pounds, I did not think I would ever loose any weight, but i found if i took it one day at a time, kept my journal, my food diary, religiously every day, it would work, I started exercising on my eliptical traineronly maybe 2 mins at a time it was all i could do then wnet to 3 and so on you know the story hehe....now i am addicted to exericising and eating right ( i mean in a good way), the more you stick with somthing, the more you want to keep on the right track, just take it one day at a time, dont over think things, and it will happen for you, i know you can do it, justu belive in yourself, and be your biggest fan, you can only do it for you, noone else and until you are ready to do it for you, your not ready....dont start out with a boot camp type regimen i have noticed sevral posters doing that here, that is very dangerous esp if your very outof shape like the women who over heated, start slow your body is not ready for boot camp yet, all the ideas here seem great, just pic what works for you and go for it stacy/akira
Guest guest
That sounds like a wonderful idea Theresa. You know my son had a punching bag and when I would get so frustrated and angry at the ex I would punch it and it surely did help get all my frustrations out. Maybe I should try something like that. I think my sister has those tapes. I do love the Sansone tapes but I did get a little bored. Of course I only did the 1 mile walk. I have just started working and that is the kind of exercise that I love, Work! Tina Re: Loathe Exercise!-Help! i used to be exactly like you, I hated the mere thought of exercise! Guest guest
Me too... Well, I suppose I could do it once a week, just as a starter. Not a whole 1/2 hour though....that's just going to far! Let's see, it takes maybe 10 mints to do floor exersices. I think I could commit to 10 mints a week. You? If we can do 10 mints a week - that's only 1 day - and we could keep it up without fail till the end of the month....I bet by then we wouldn't be so afraid to go for double that next. Ya think? Hey - walking fast at the mall should count as a bonus too. And we need excuses...oh, I meen, reasons that we can back out...no, I meen reasons that would make it ok if we just absolutely could not do it. Hmmm...ok, if your b-day or aniversary falls in that week - your off the hook. If your sick for at least 3 days out of the week - you can renig without consequence. Oh - we need consequence....ok, if we don't do it, we have to do double the next week. 10 mints doens't seem long enough, I know...but I also know that anything more than 10 mints and I'd have to make it a 2 day thing - split it up. I just don't think I can commit to 2 days yet. I'm so bad.... Ang (to) > Geez guys, I keep telling myself everyday that I am going to do it but I don't. Guest guest
> Thanks, Tina ps..........I will try again sunday or soon. Where's Ang, I know she can relate to this! LOL I'm here :-) Just can't possibly reply to all anymore - my arm is realy acting crazy. I know my hearts ok, so I stopped worrying ... but it's worse! I had the sudden horrible thought today, rmember that diabetics can loose limbs. My husband use to always tell me I'd turn myself into a sugar diabet the way I ate nothing but sugar. It's my elbow down now instead of just the pinky finger. And it's only been a few days. No clue. Guess I should call the doc an make an appointment. No way I can afford more testsa though - so don't see the point. Ya know what...aobut the exerscie - we realy do HAVE to soon. I meen by the end of the year, only 3 months away, we need to be doing a 3 time a week program for a decent amount of time. Gonna have to build ourselves up to it. We'll have to start measureing before and all during so we can see the progress. I for one won't do something I hat4e unles I see improvements or rewards. STart by telling yourself you love to exercise! Here's a few favorite quotes: Sow a thought, reap an action Sow an action, reap a habit Sow a habit, reap a character Sow a character, reap a destiny! What the mind of [a person] can conceive and believe, the mind of [a person] can achieve. Napoleon Hill " Never, never, never quit. " Winston Churchill " Quitters never win and winners never quit! I lost 13 inches in 9 weeks!!! That's fast resutls!!! Here's why I do it... lean muscle burns more calories at rest then fat!!! I figured if I built up my muscles, then my body would be more efficient, and at some point I'll just be a fat buring machine! (I'm hoping this happens when I hit 145 and go from overweight to average!) I spend a lot of time sitting and want my body to be the most efficient it can be. It just made sense to me! Guest guest
Hi, I recently read a suggestion for people who loathe exercise. I don't know if it will help or not. Be sure to do a 5 minute " cool down " at the end of exercise. Here's the reason they gave: If you don¹t cool down you will feel rotten. (I feel rotten if I don¹t do a cool down, so this seems true.) You tend to remember how you felt at the end of exercise, so you learn to hate exercise. Anyway, forcing yourself to do the cool down during your next few sessions may help. It's worth a try. I also think that if you loathe exercise, it's best to start at a slow pace. If you push yourself too hard, you will hate it. The best thing is to develop the habit of exercise. Do it at least 4 times a week. Later on, consider pushing yourself-- but only after you no longer hate the whole idea.
