nne,

My church has a prayer shawl and quilt

ministry. I think it is amazing that you participate in one. My brother is

battling colon cancer and he sleeps with his prayer quilt all the time. My Sunday

school class prayed over it before I sent it to him. It made it all the way to Germany where it

has given him great comfort. I have a prayer shawl from my last hospitalization

and still use it to snuggle under. We both agree you can feel God’s love in the

stitches.

Keep up the good work,

Connie

,

When our kids were in school I was room mother, on the PTA,

lunch room monitor, I was on the bus morning and night as the monitor, and then

was involved with the group that over saw the PTA, can't think of the name. Of

course I had to do my cooking, cleaning etc when home.

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer I read several

books, actually I have about 250 books on positive thinking, breast cancer and

cancer. Quite a few said one of the best things you can do is learn to say no.

You have to listen to your body and rest when its required.

I started my crocheting as therapy and to keep my mind off

of the breast cancer. I can't tell you how many afghans I made and gave away

since then. I would say at a minimum 75. A few years ago when money was getting

tight I decided afghans were too expensive to make so started making lapghans

for seniors in nursing homes. Last year I made 220. One of my friends would pay

for the yarn and I in turn would make the lapghans and send them to the church

where her daughter worked and she would distribute them to the nursing homes.

Some even went to Katrina victims and some went to shelters for battered woman

for the little children and also some of the police would take a few incase one

was needed in an accident etc.

Now I belong to a prayer shawl ministry and make shawls. So

far I have made 14 since the summer and am working on another. I also

crochet/loom knit scarvers for the homeless. I can't explain how good it feels

to know that someone in need will be getting one of these items. If you do any

crafts you might want to try doing this and giving them to some charities. I

will keep you in my prayers.

Hugs

To

give with limitations

n, you are

right. Perhaps if I look for opportunities to do something for someone else it

will help me feel better.

One of my greatest problems has been to jump in with two feet and make myself

ill with the involvement! Now that I have been " resting " for a while

i think I will be able to listen to my spirit and not over do. But I guess that

just means that if I am doing too much, my body will tell me and I will have to

say no!

I am fully a type A. It enabled me to do so much that I was in a frenzy keeping

up for myself. Now, the personality has had to be " tempered " and I am

suffering some from withdrawal. Can i tell you I often led music and conducted

the music for Christmas stuff, etc. I was really good. many people ask me why I

am not continuing to perform. i just realized it was too much stress...and

until i can control the nerves about it, i cannot do it.

I have gone to the nursing home several times a year to play for the patients

there. They are always so welcoming and they have no requests ...they are just

glad for the visit. I don't overdo doing that because of the " germs "

but an occasional visit doesn't hurt.

Anyway, since you are the second or third person to mention I should look for

opportunities to give, i believe i will LISTEN...and see where this will take

me. Thanks for the support...

Wishing everyone a wonderful day.

I recieved a prayer shawl. I was so surprised! and I checked the mail and there was a box, from someone in Florida. That was puzzling enough, then I pulled out a beautiful shawl and just sat there stupid. LMHO A very nice card inside explained that my Mother had requested it for me. :o) I'd always been very taken with the idea of prayer shawls, afgans and lap blankets, but actually receiving one was something else... wow. I love it! For many reasons. :o) Challis & nne Svihlik wrote: Thats great that both you and your brother have received a prayer shawl. I will keep you both in my prayers. Akiba,

I make prayer shawls. If you would like one I would be happy to make you one. I have lots of yarn. Give me some ideas on colors and I will see what I have. I am working on a few other things so can't promise a definite date but it would definitely be within a couple of weeks to a month.

An email friend of mine made a beautiful one and mailed it to me. Then she made one for Challis and for my niece. There are different church groups who make them. If I can find someone I'll let you know.

Sharon Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time..

To give with limitations

n , you are right. Perhaps if I look for opportunities to do something for someone else it will help me feel better. One of my greatest problems has been to jump in with two feet and make myself ill with the involvement! Now that I have been "resting" for a while i think I will be able to listen to my spirit and not over do. But I guess that just means that if I am doing too much, my body will tell me and I will have to say no!I am fully a type A. It enabled me to do so much that I was in a frenzy keeping up for myself. Now, the personality has had to be "tempered" and I am suffering some from withdrawal. Can i tell you I often led music and conducted the music for Christmas stuff, etc. I was really good. many people ask me why I am not continuing to perform. i just realized it was too much stress...and until i can control the nerves about it, i cannot do it. I

have gone to the nursing home several times a year to play for the patients there. They are always so welcoming and they have no requests ...they are just glad for the visit. I don't overdo doing that because of the "germs" but an occasional visit doesn't hurt. Anyway, since you are the second or third person to mention I should look for opportunities to give, i believe i will LISTEN...and see where this will take me. Thanks for the support...Wishing everyone a wonderful day.

I told Akiba I would make one for her since I belong to the Prayer Shawl Ministry.

Let me see what I have in my "stash". I will get as close as possible. I know I don't have royal purple. When you say violet are you talking like a light lavender or darker? I used to have hunter green.

Its hard to get exact colors. We used to manage a candy store and made mints for weddings. I never in all of my life thought there were so many versions of teal. I bet we did at least 10 weddings with teal one year and none of the teals were the same color. Maybe the best thing to do is to see what I have and have Chuck try to take a picture of it and then you can let me know. I will look in the morning more than likely as the closet doesn't have a light in it.

I have gone to the nursing home several times a year to play for the patients there.
