Description

In India around 5.1 million people are infected with the HIV virus.

The epidemic continues to shift towards women and young

people.Unless vigorous and timely action is taken, India runs the

risk of experiencing the devastating social and economic impacts of

the kind of full-blown AIDS epidemics seen elsewhere in the world.

There is still a window of opportunity to act to prevent this

situation. Implementation capacity at the State level is critical

for India to have a effective HIV/AIDS response.
