Hi !!

I am currently 341/2 weeks pregnant with my first baby and I also found out

that I had UD about 3 week before I became pregnant. My DH & I had only

been trying for about a month, so conception didn't seem to be a problem

this time around.

When I had my first appointment for the pregnancy at 5 weeks, my OB had

mentioned that I was in a " high risk group. " However, I believe that they

have managed me the same as any other pregnancy. I didn't start my every

two week visits until I was into my third trimester. And, my OB hasn't

really monitored my cervix at all - which was a big concern of mine. He

felt that he would only consider a cerclage if I had a history of

miscarriage due to an incompetent cervix. I was really concerned that I

wasn't being followed closely enough, but thus really haven't been any

complications so far.

With your history of a loss at 13 weeks, I would push for a cerclage & bed

rest. I had a friend who didn't adhere to the bed rest guidelines as

strictly as her physician advised after her cerclage & her cerclage gave out

at 29 weeks (although her baby is fine). Most of the references I found

when I was looking into cerclage said that it should be placed around 13

weeks - which seems to be just what you have found as well.

And, definately keep up the prayers!! I know that I wouldn't have made it

this far without them!! The power of a positive outlook is very strong.

I'm glad that you've found a support system that has given you hope.

Wishing you the best of luck!!

1st pregnancy

daughter born 10/13/00 considered high risk IUGR at 16 weeks gestation, 2

weeks behind on growth, low amniotic fluid amniocentesis at 20 weeks,

results showed normal baby with 2 weeks IUGR delivered by c-section at 39

weeks daughter weighed 5lb 10oz; saw perinatologist many times throughout

later 2nd and 3rd trimester; ob monitored me frequently starting at 26-28

weeks with weekly appointments and 28-delivery with biweekly appointments

consisting of a Non stress test and ultrasound for fetal well being; no

cervical changes throughout my pregnancy, no cerclage

2nd pregnancy

due 4/18/02, scheduled c-section 4/10-12/02, so far " normal pregnancy "

despite history, every pregnancy will be high risk, no IUGR

left UU, left fallopian tube with right rudimentary horn (noncommunicating),

both ovaries and kidneys

Mommy to Darby 10/13/00 and ???? 4/18/02

I'm currently 6w1d pg and am considered high risk. My perinatologist

will monitor me and put a cerclage in only if she thinks it is

needed. She doesn't like to do preventative cerclages. So, we'll

see...But, I believe it is after week 24 that you can't do one

because the risks outweigh the benefits.

She also mentioned potential bed rest, but only if necessary. She'd

prefer I stay active.

Hi,

I thought we just had a similar poll on our yahoo webpage a few months ago

asking for our personal profiles. I can't seem to find it on the webpage. Has

it been deleted? Can we do it again on the webpage?? All the newcomers could

check all of our personal profiles on the web and we d not have to answer the

same questions over and over.

Here s my personal profile:

Septate Uterus diagnosed 5/01, Hysteroscopic Resection of Uterine Septum 6/01

& 8/01, currently TTC

Sorry, I can't seem to keep track of everyone as I ve been quite busy with

the holidays going on this month.

I've been trying to get pregnant since last fall. I ve followed FAM since

last November but haven't conceived yet. I just made an appt. with a

fertility specialist on Jan. 18th to inquire all about our fertility issues.

Happy Holidays and wish you all the best of luck for the New Year!

a cerclage, which week was it done?

Hi ,

I have a septate uterus, have had surgery on it, and lost a baby at

19 weeks to incompetent cervix. This next time I will be treated as

high risk and will receive a cerclage ~12 weeks. One doc says 12-14

and another 9-10. The one who wants it to be later says it should be

done after m/c risk goes down. The one who wants it done earlier

says that they are more stable if done earlier.

I'm having the cerclage because my cervix opened up without warning,

and if it was not weak then, it could be now, simply from having been

dilated mid term.

Also have done progesterone supplementation--to 13 weeks-- and it

worked nicely.

Due to my BU, my OB automatically considered me high risk and

referred me to a perinatologist. I saw my regular OB once a month,

until 28 weeks, at which point they started seeing me every two

weeks. I have seen my peri every two weeks since toward the end of

my first trimester. I have read a lot of studies that suggest a

prophylactic cerclage at 14-16 weeks for anyone at risk for cervical

incompetence, but my peri did not recommend it unless my cervix

showed significant changes. Instead, I have had transvaginal u/s to

measure cervical length every two weeks since week 17 (I had one

every 3 weeks before that). I have been very lucky and my cervix has

stayed very long and closed, but the peace of mind I have gotten from

regular measurements has been wonderful. I asked my peri if they

will do the same thing during my next pregnancy (if I should be so

lucky)- he said absolutely. There are some good studies on

pubmed.com regarding cervical incompetence and MA. Hope that helps.
