Guest guest
It does have MSG, so if you have problems with that then it's something to think about, but they use cornstarch as a thickner instead of flour for their cream soups. I have tried the chicken and the mushroom, they aren't condensed soups, but still work just fine in those recipe's where you need them! Also contacted the company about 2 weeks ago, they said on their products things are listed on the labels. Sooo be a label reader! - > Progresso Mushroom soup is GF? I didn't know that, thanks! > Debbie C.
Guest guest
I don't know about that one, but we enjoy the Progresso Carb Moniter Chicken Vegetable They list wheat (if it's in there). Chicken broth, cooked white chicken meat, tomatoes, green beans, celery, onions, contains less than 2% of: water, modified food starch, salt, monosodium glutamate, hydrolyzed corn protein, chicken fat, onion powder, soy protein isolate, sodium phosphate, autolyzed yeast extract, garlic powder, dried parsley, dried chives, calcium chloride, citric acid, spice, natural flavor, beta carotene (color). CONTAINS SOY INGREDIENTS I haven't noticed a reaction to this, and it doesn't say wheat, however, there could always be some in the modified food starch. Progresso is a General Mills product, though, and they've assured me that it would be listed if it was there! Hope that helps, Becki Progresso Soup I was reading on one of these list that the Progresso Chicken Pot Pie soup was gluten free. While at the store I went to buy one and it had Wheat Starch listed as one of the ingredients. Now was someone mistaken or did they change their ingredients? Or am I totally off base on what is considered to have Gluten?
Guest guest
This is why you always read the ingredients carefully. Progresso says it will clearly list any wheat, rye, or barley in the ingredients. They also have a little allergen warning below. In this soup they did not list wheat in the allergen warning even though it has wheat starch clearly listed in the ingredients. When questioned about this, Progresso claims the wheat starch is GF because it falls below a certain measurement in gluten. They still clearly list it in the ingredients, but not as an allergen. You may haveread a posting from somebody who didn't see wheat in the allergen listing, but also didn't read the ingredients. richard --- Marvin and Bjorge wrote: > I was reading on one of these list that the > Progresso Chicken Pot Pie soup > was gluten free. Guest guest
Have you guys read the studies on wheat starch on the celiac.com website? It seems form several studies that if you are on an otherwise strict gf diet that wheat starch is not an issue. http://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid=15 . What do you all think about this??
