Guest guest
>>> ... I am appalled that many Radiologist here in my State, Minnesota have the same attitude about it, such as: get a room at a hotel if you feel it not being a good idea to go home.>>> The hotel solution scares me to death. Last month, I stayed at a hotel on vacation & when I walked into the room, I thought about things we've read here & wondered just who/what had been there before me. I feel for people sent home while too hot to handle, really--especially those w/ kids. But, if a hotel must be used--surely it would be better to send the KIDS there (w/ an adult, of course), while the patient stays home to take the required radiation precautions w/ some hope of actually not contaminating people. In my opinion, it's an impossible & dangerous situation when the patient goes to a hotel. Nina geiger@...
Guest guest
Nina, Your post has me wondering---what is the " danger " to other people who are exposed to a " hot " hotel room? The RAI I-131 does NOT cause cancer in other organs whenever we take it, right? So, it couldn't cause cancer in other people either, right? Or, does it increase their chance of getting thyca? Is the thyroid gland the only gland/organ affected by I-131? I'm just trying to understand this info. Will you explain it to me? --Chris papillary w/follicular var; tt 4/9/01 > >>> ... Guest guest
RAI can/will effect the thyroids of those who come in contact with the dribbles and scatterings we leave behind. The smaller the person, the more potential for damage. Pity the poor pregnant cleaning woman who unsuspectingly runs across our castoffs and delivers a blast of RAI to her baby. Or the toddler whose exhausted parent doesn't notice her with her hand in the toilet bowl or on the toilet seat. Or anyone who sleeps with his head just a thin pillowcase away from our dribbling. Most people want to keep their thyroids. It's just us who want to get rid of them. ;o) (hcc) For more information regarding thyroid cancer visit www.thyca.org. Guest guest
So, if I understand correctly, then this is another way that a person could account for developing thyca even though they didn't think they had any direct exposure to radiation? Interesting. --Chris papillary thyca w/ follicular var; dx 4/7/01; tt4/9/01 > > > > RAI can/will effect the thyroids of those who come in contact with the dribbles and scatterings we leave behind.
