Hi Marie... yep, we fly out Wednesday morning... I started packing a month ago! And, well, the TDD that I was loaned in Calif. and then here in Oregon, is the print/answering machine/direct connect/ programmable snazzies in those catalogs. Every few years I call and ask if they have newer models out, and if so they replace it if I want.. Alot of people are unaware they can do that. They don't advertise it, but you can. Like CA has those VCO-only phones now I think, I'm waiting for them to come to Oregon. But like Pete said, the ans.. machine says to the hearing person " ... please use the relay at #.... " and that's hardly used. Then again, if you tell your friends to use the relay to leave a message, or that they'll get that message from your machine, I don't see how bad that will be. If you are looking for a tdd to simply print a voice, three words... " Aren't we all! " ) I hope you're doing well, Marie. Jennette

Guest guest
Pete I thought if you had the TTD/voice answering machine, this you could just select play and it would play them to your TTD? Are you saying you have to call relay to have them played? , is that what you do? Thanks Pete, I did not realize A TDD answering machine does only TDD calls--of which I will probably have nil! Guest guest
Hi Marie, I think Jenn is right about most states having a loaner program for TTY's. Call the telephone company. Here in MA we get a Ultratec Superprint 4425 and it is a TTY with printer and TTY answering machine but if someone calls on voice it will tell them " This is a TTY please dial relay 1- (or whatever the # is) This is from Bell Atlantic. I've heard the TTY/Voice answering machines don't work well... peace- JJ
Guest guest
Marie, I have yet to see the use for a printing TTY, except to needlessly slaughter more trees. (I suppose some businesses might have use for one.) As for a TTY answering service ... I use my computer. I have a data/fax/voice modem, and I use software that acts like a voice mail system. The program I use is called Cheyenne Bitware. I can set it up to take voice as well as TTY calls, but why? I can't hear the voice part ... So it answers my phone, and takes TTY and fax messages (as well as send faxes). I tried other programs, but none of the others worked with TTY calls. It treats TTY calls as it does voice calls. You can record your own message, or whatever. It's setup with mailboxes, but you can change that so it only works like an answering machine (ie, one mailbox). It works fine. Sometimes the TTY signal does not get reproduced correctly by the computer (digital signal), so you need to monkey around a bit. If anyone is interested, I can email them a copy of the program. (It's pretty dated software, but it works fine). Alternatively, you can get a regular voice mail service with your phone company for your TTY. Again, this is not for TTY, but voice, so you need to be able to navigate the menus. I also have call display, so that I know if an incoming call is TTY or voice. If it's voice, I can either call them back at their number, or ask them to call through relay, depending on how I feel about them =)
Guest guest
for MARIE, and others: I'm no Pete but here's my experience with my Ultratec TTY: What happens when a vocal person calls: 1. when i leave home, i set " Auto Answer On " , which turns on the answering machine 2. someone calls me via Relay Service 3. relay dials my TTY 4. they get 4 rings (i set it so machine goes off in 4 rings), relay sees my pretyped answering message (hi, this is nisha, i'm not in, please.. blah blah) 5. relay tells voice person that no one is picking up and would he/she like to leave a message 6. person give vocal message with Relay operator and operator types it right then 7. i get home and my machine display: " Auto Answer On, 1 message " 8. i hit " review messages " and the previously typed message scrolls across my screen 9. i can save, delete, print, etc. The End What happens when another TTY calls 1. they get 4 rings (i set it so machine goes off in 4 rings), then the message scrolls (hi, this is nisha, blah blah) 2. they type a message if they want 3. see # 7-9 above hope this helps! i understand it's confusing to start.. but it gets easier from here on out. -nisha > >So Pete, please tell me if I get a Ultratec TTY Superprint 4425 >with answering machine and printer: Then someone calls via voice: I come >home and obviously cannot hear the message. Guest guest
Could you tell me how I go about getting something like that? I mean if I dial operator she won't have a clue!! Call Customer Service?? I thought had a phone that transcribed voice messages into TDD, but I was wrong; big disappointment, realizing what seems so easy to me is just not available!! So Pete, please tell me if I get a Ultratec TTY Superprint 4425 with answering machine and printer: Then someone calls via voice: I come home and obviously cannot hear the message. I then call relay, and she can access these messages and type them to the TDD for me??? Now if someone has a TDD, then they type in a message and when I play it, I get a typed message on MY TDD, is that correct? So now all I need to do is get a TDD 4425 with printer and answering machine? And I can call customer service to see if they have this available? Boy this initial set up is hairy! Guest guest
Thanks Jen, can you advise, I have Bell Atlantic and am wondering who I need to contact to see about this? The website indicates discount rates for a TDD, etc. but I can see nothing about borrowing one. You be REAL CAREFUL in the water; remember Meri Garst's husband, and he is healthy!!
