Hey gang,

I need to go out on a limb here and do a little preaching about dieting.

Please be wise and try to avoid the fad diets and the diet drinks. We have

RSD here and we need to be careful that we do not starve our bodies of much

needed nutrients. There are many electrolytes in the foods that we eat and

we need them for a healthy immune system and a healthy mood. Food is the

fuel source that our bodies need.

The acceptable amount of weight to lose per week is TWO pounds. Any more

than has a bad affect on our bodies and we pay for that later. The best diet

is to reduce the number of calories per day by 300. In order to lose two

pounds of body weight we need to reduce the number of calories consumed by

1500 calories in a week (which is 300 calories by day). Remember to drink

plenty of water and eat small meals. Three to six meals per day is great.

Also remember in order to lose weight that you also need to increase the

number of fruits and vegetables that you eat per day.

The last step to a successful diet is to develop a weight bearing activity

every day or at least every other day. This is very easily accomplished by

parking the car a little further away from the store. Getting off the bus

one stop earlier. Going for little walks.

I hope this helps someone out there.

Remember to hold your head up.

Glenn

Dory, I get cramps, intermittent diahrea and constipation, because I have

IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). I've been checked for polyps, and all that,

but except for

one hellacious hemmrhoid, there is nothing there. It seems to go with the

Lupus

territory. Lupus attacks us where we are weakest, at least it seems so. I

am the

Potty Princess, whereas Normi is the Queen of the Throne. LOL Love, MM

HI Dory. I suffer from ulcerative colitis. I have cramping and other issues with this too.

If you ever notice, I have been deemed "Queen of the Throne", and this is why.

Well, that and I have to pee a lot many times.I have bladder adhesions, scarring really bad, and also had a huge mass removed from my bladder, ureter, and colon in sept 99. They had to "shave" my bladder. I am just grateful I have one, there was no guarantees I would wake up with one.

I have chronic bladder inflammation. Some days, I should just get a good book and sit on my throne all day long.

MM is the "princess of the poty"

I am not sure this is a lupus thing, I know people with these diseases, but no other health issues going on.

Maybe we are more prone to getting these things though.

I know the feeling. I mean I am ok many times, and then I get a problem with it. I usually drink ensure or boost, and make sure what I eat only digests in my stomach quickly. This is what I had to do for a month when I had major bleeding and cramping one day, this is when it was dx.I am not sure if your doc ever talked with you about that? Only eating things that digest in your stomach? When it calms down, I eat and graze like an goat does. I was also given "asocol" for my colon. I refused to use it. A major side effect is excessive hairloss, had enough of that already.

Have you considered using boost or ensure or something? I was given it by rx.

I notice that the stores like Kmart and Walmart and some others, now have their own store brands out as well. I know it can be expensive, but not good not to get any nutrients either. If you are not wanting to eat much, this might be something you want to look into using. They also make it with extra calories, extra calcium, light, extra protein, etc.... Just a thought here.

I keep seeing an ad on tv for a new med for crohns, have you seen it?

I cannot recall the name right now . Maybe you could check in to this though.

Do you get woke up out of a dead sleep with pains as severe as labor pains? I get that, and what a rude awakening it is. It makes you sweat, lose your breath, and feel like passing out from the pain and cramps.

Hope you get some relief and some answers soon.

Take care, Normi
