Guest guest
Yes!! My TSH results in April were .31 and I have the same problem, except mine are horrible the first 3 days, then linger for about 11 days total. Worse pre-symptoms, too. I also thought that a lower TSH meant lighter periods. Not me, sister! I think this is one of the 'hormonal adjustments " that just hasn't quite worked itself out yet? Sandy TT/RAI Oct. 2000, pap Questions for females Okay, this one is a bit embarrassing, AND its for the females only who still have periods. Have any of you found your periods to have changed dramatically since your tt?? Mine are sooo heavy and only last 3 days. Lots of clotting too(yuck). Is this a symptom of having your thyroid out??? Wrong dosage? Kathi pap dx 1998 34 years young lymphnode involved 1 clean scan

Guest guest
Hi Kathi, Im glad you raised that question, my problem is I have only had 5 periods since my op for thyca dosent sound to bad I know but I had my op 2 1/2 yrs ago. I am only 32 so I know this is not normal. But to be honest im not complaining. That is unless someone out there thinks this is something I should worry about. And when I do have a period it last for about 5 hours only not much complaining from me. I suppose this would be a real problem if I wanted more kids but im quite happy with the three I already have. Take care Helen
Guest guest
Kathi, Since my TT my periods have been irregular and fluctuate from light to heavy with clots, all within a day or two. My endo said this is not unusual and generally can last around 6 months or so before resuming their normal pattern. I am 6 1/2 months post-op now and they seem to be getting a little less weird. In a word, Yes. It seems to be more a function of not having a thyroid than the amount of T4 I'm on. When I had a thyroid, my periods were 30-31 days apart. Now, fully suppressed, they are running 26-28 days and they are shorter, but only sort of heavier. I think that's one of those YMMV things. Kathy (age 40 so that might have something to do with it too, I suppose)

Guest guest
Kathi, I've been without a thyroid gland for almost 6 years and really haven't noticed any changes in my menstrual cycle or flow. The only time I do notice a change is when I am hypothyroid. Then my period is heavy for a full 8 days!! I recently read a magazine article about what causes clotting--wish I could remember what it was--although it is harmless. I believe it is due to the lining not gradually breaking up. I have had clotting for years which is getting more frequent as I age. Guest guest
Hi Kathi... Yes, my periods have been highly irratic since my TT. My periods were so reliable before my TT I could set my clock by them -- a short, 3 day period with very light cramping the first day, and a 28 day cycle -- but now, I don't know WHEN to expect it! I had three periods the month following my TT and then nothing for 5 weeks. My last cycle was 18 days. My periods are now extremely heavy and quite crampy. My endo said this is quite common and should resolve itself once my TSH levels are suppressed. ===== Christy, 42 Las Vegas, NV 2/26/01 PT; 3/10/01 TT (2.5 cm follicular w/minimal invasion and .9 cm incidental encapsulated papillary); 3/28/01 145 mCi RAI; .5 Rocaltrol + 1500 mg calcium daily. __________________________________________________
