Guest guest
Hello again, It seems that I misinformed you about my new thyca pal. She only had the left lobe and isthmus removed, not a total thyroidectomy. The right side was " cleaned up " - the surgeon removed three small nodules. However, there are three new growths on the right side that were sighted two weeks post op. Obviously these new growths are of great concern to her. She's confused, especially since Mt. Sinai stands firm on their 'benign' report as does Sloan-Kettering on their diagnosis of papillary carcinoma. She's dubbed this the 'BATTLE OF THE DIAGNOSIS'. Well, at least she's keeping her sense of humor about this. I appreciate the responses that I've already received. I don't know if having had a partial makes a difference in this scenario but I figured I'd keep you informed. Again, what's a patient to do? Abby from Baldwin, NY Dx. follicular variant of papillary cancer 11/98 after PT, TT 1/99, RAI 100 mCi 3/99, Clean scan 3/00, Clean Thyrogen scan 5/01! Awaiting TSH & TG results

Guest guest
Hi Abby, Just my opinion, but for myself, I'd rather be safe than sorry. Didn't someone here recommend good docs in your area just recently? MSK has an excellent reputation, so I would go with further studies, since the remaining tissue & nodules are of concern to your friend. That and the fact that I've read so many times here that persons had a pt, only to go back very soon after for the completion tt. The new growth would make me look for a second opinion from a doc that is experienced in thyca. from NE Ohio 3/25/65 tt Papillary ThyCa w/lymph node mets HPTH 3 days post radical tt 3/25/82 Recurrence in neck/ & R chest Tx w/RAI 131 176 mCi hx kidney stones Hello again, It seems that I misinformed you about my new thyca pal. Guest guest
Abby-- >>>Again, what's a patient to do? I got a quick & definitive 2nd op on my path report from Mayo Clinic in MN. It's just a matter of the patient directing the current lab to forward the tissue there & arranging for a report w/ Mayo--or where ever she chooses. I can't believe any patient would just assume at this point that it isn't cancer, in her position. Nina geiger@...
