Marcus,

That's a very good point about church goers getting really involved in

feeling that they need to isolate people that are suffering. You are right

you need to pray for them. Christians aren't immune to sin so those

Christians whom are saying you are inferior are in fact sinning. We are all

under God and his children equal and just. The Lord loves us for loving Him

not for the social, economic, racial or any status that we on earth place

ourselves.

Parents by the way, make blunders and I can testify to this I have a son

myself. But I was very angry at my own parents in my late teens for not

knowing enough to do with my NF. Since then I have forgiven them and we

living a new life together.

Hmmm Well I'm not sure I want to get involved in the religion debate ! But

anyway,,, when I was 13-14 and my hand just decided it wasn't going to work

any more. My parents tried everything, tried all the doctors, had

exploratory operations, went to big religious meetings, faith healers, small

closed group meetings the works. I had been sent to boarding school that

year, my hand had become very weak the year before, but I was still sent

away from home. Its strange I have only just realised how heartless this

was, I had the air in the brain test, Angiograms and surgery and was always

sent back to boarding school !!! Why would my parents do this ?? I had a

brother and sister at home..

I sure developed a tough side that year that has been very handy down

through the years, an old school like that leaves a deep imprint in your

life.

Anyway we went to these faith groups and I was always the one made to feel

inferior. There were always the accusations that I didn't have enough faith,

or the clothes I wore were not suitable ! I mean I was 13 OK ! What am I

supposed to be??? So they always had an excuse, always blame the kid.

I have had tradesmen work for me that just come out and tell me I'm a

heathen because I am deaf and have NF 2 There is no point in confronting

these people, I would be a better person to pray for them, to have some

understanding and compassion for those around them less fortunate than them

selves.

I think intolerance is the stuff 99% of all wars are made of throughout

history. If you take a good impartial look, all religions and cults have

someone thats only to ready to ram their beliefs down your throat or invade

your country.

Most of us are long term NF2 survivors, and get our FIX of courage from

something. I think its morally wrong and maybe persecution to alienate

others by their beliefs.

I'm over reacting I hear you all say !!! Well maybe.

-Hi Sally

Yes you are right about parents,, I am one !!!! No I am not angry at them,

and have no intentions of raising this with them, they did what they thought

best and I am no worse for the ordeal.Infact I may be a better person.. ..

But I certainly wonder sometimes..

Marcus,

You're NOT overreacting ! I am an NF2 survivor 23 years now and counting. I, too, have been to " healing services, " been prayed for by numerous people, been told I have some " secret sin " or God would have healed me. I've also indirectly been told I'm heathen since I was prayed for and wasn' t

healed, and been told I don't/didn't have enough faith, etc., etc.

I think you have it more right when you talked about intolerance and people pushing THEIR, not God's thoughts and views down your throat. YOU are fine ! Don't let some immature person get you down with their words or judgements. If things are " cool " between you & God that is what counts.

I realize we have many different thoughts and views about God and religion amonst ourselves here on Crew. I'm not going to push what I think or believe on someone else. I'm also not going to judge a person simply because they don't look as I do, think as I do, or do as I do. It is between us personally and God personally. 'Nuf said.

I agree. How can people think that you haven't been healed (or even ended up with a disease) by believing some Scarlet Letter story. These people are far from perfect themselves, why pass judgement on somebody else?

Marcus,

I found it incomprehensible that you were not at home through all these early

health challenges. You are truly a survivor and a tough dude. that had to

have hurt. In fact, my daughter is now 26 and developmentally disabled. The

goal for this population is independence which includes living in their own

dwelling. Due to Anne's health and multiple tumors, I wouldn't think of

pursuing this independence thing. In fact, some days when she is difficult,

I tease her and threaten to give her a new living situation. She quickly

responds " no such thing " which is really funny because her aphasia more often

than not deters her expected responses. Anyhoo, I am very proud of you and

your strength of character. Kudos!!!!!! Vicki
