<<How did you all go into labor? Did your water just

break at home or did you have contractions and water

broke at the hospital? >>

I had an appt with my OB the day before I went into labor. He told me that I had

at least two weeks before he expected me to go into labor...mind you I was two

days away from 40 wks and hadn't even dropped yet and my cervix was still very

long...no dialation at all. Less than ten hours later I woke at about 3am

feeling just horrible...I had the most horrible cramps. So I get up, go take a

shower call the hospital and they say to wait until they are like 5 minutes

(steady) apart and I am like they are now...but I decided to wait called my best

friend at about 630 and she came over...we ended up going to the hospital at

around 8 am, my water still hadn't broken yet. They admitted me around 10am and

moved me up to the labor and delivery floor. Where I sat and waited, in labor,

for the next 6 hours while they played around with the pitocin trying to get my

contractions to be more regular, then they were to close, then too far

apart...never were they where they wanted them to be to truelly effective. But

around 4

30pm I had finally dialated to 10, after they had broken my water 4hours

earlier. I pushed for almost 3 hours before finally having my son.

Well, for me, my water broke at 3:40 AM....I could 'hear' it pop. I've only been

pregnant/had one baby myself. My sister was pregnant and due the day after me

[only to have her baby 2 days early and mine was 3 days late from our respective

due dates] and it was her second child and she had contractions and had to have

her water 'broken' for her at the hospital. On a side note, she knew she was in

labor and called the hospital but because [i'm guessing here] her water hadn't

broken yet, the staff told her that it could be false labor and to wait an hour,

take a shower, and then come in. By the time she got to the hospital, she was

dilated to 9 and mad as heck!! [she couldn't get anything for the pain now.]

Everyone's different and as cliché as it sounds, you'll know when it happens.

Good luck!
