Guest guest
you are abolutely correct in your assessment of the direction health care will take. Everyone please remember that the two bills currently approved by are very different. God only knows what the final bill will look like. However a provision in the House bill - which has the government options gives the government the power to determine if your plan is adequate. Even if you have insurance thru your employer, the government has the power to pass judgement on the policy. In addition the bill says that if you like your insurance you can keep it, but if anything changes onto the government program you go. For my husband & I this means that when he retires in a couple years and losses his employer insurance we have to go on the government program. Everyone please keep in mind that these bills are so ridiculously complex that no one knows what is in the bills. The Mayo MD that I heard speak was absolutely opposed to this reform. He also expressed an opinion that I have heard repeated time and time again. There will be a serious shortage of MD's as many as 45% say they will leave medicine if this passes. Many others will decrease the number of days that they practice. The tax increases that will be imposed on the more productive higher wage earners will be obscene. Why work your butt off when the government is going to steal your money and spread it around? For those intelligent open minded individuals who can not understand how I can be so close minded and oppose this legislation why have you not addressed the billions of our tax dollars going to the earmarks and pork used to BRIBE our elected officials into voting for this bill? Again if it is such a grand piece of legislation, that will do nothing but benefit WE THE PEOPLE, why the need to buy people off? And why isn't everyone of the proponents of the bill on the top of the list for implementation??? ---- Audley3@... wrote: > It boggles my mind that seemingly intelligent people don't seem to grasp > the repercussions of this bill and are burying their heads in the sand when > it comes to the realities of the bill. > > There seems to be a widespread belief that one who has medical insurance > through their employer, and who is happy with this insurance, will not have > to change it. > > That may be true in the short term, but what will happen in the long-term > is a totally different matter. > > Put simply, do the math. Guest guest
The House passed their bill nearly two months ago. The Senate bill does not go back to the House as written, it goes to an informal Conference Committee made up of both Senate and House members for revisions. Guest guest
This is exactly what is even scarier with this billNO ONE KNOWS and no one in Capital Hill or the White House states anything clear about the bill. Everything is foggy. Nothing is a clear cut and what makes you think that if you could keep your current insurance it won't cost you. It will because if you want to keep your current coverage, and your/my employer will no longer pay for it - guess what - it will cost you a fortune to keep it. YOu could keep it, maybe, but could you afford to keep it?????? most probably wouldn't be able to. Merav Levi, RD, MS, CDNhttp://www.linkedin.com/in/meravlevi To: rd-usa CC: Audley3@... Guest guest
Absolutely! That's what every voter should do - when your rep is not representing you but themselves..... Date: Sun, 3 Jan 2010 06:41:15 -0800 Subject: Re: Re: Grrrr I have contacted my congressmen numerous times regarding healthcare, the response is less than acceptable. They have an agenda no matter what to get this through and be damned with their constituents. I personally know who I am not voting for next time around because they aren't listening to the people. Subject: Re: Grrrr To: rd-usa Date: Sunday, January 3, 2010, 8:13 AM One difference is, under the 'health care bill', you will be required to have health insurance -- one way or another. Audley stated it very precisely. Once your employer discovers it's 'cheaper' to pay a penalty, rather than offer health insurance, you'll be on your own to find a policy that you can afford and will meet your needs. If they would only just 'fix' the 'broken' parts of health care coverage, we'd all be better off. Health CARE in this country isn't broken, just health insurance coverage! Those of us who live in Massachusetts know we have the best health care in the world available--we should--there' s a major hospital or medical school on every street corner in the city of Boston! The other difference is that you are NOT REQUIRED to own a car -- that is your CHOICE! But, if you do choose to own a car, you must be covered by insurance. That's also the law in Massachusetts. As an aside--My husband is now covered by Medicare, and it's a good thing that he has a degree in economics from Harvard!!!! The rules and regulations that exist in that program actually require a PhD in order to understand! And, if you want to be adequately covered, a MediGap insurance policy is a MUST! It would be nice if the bill was going to be cutting fraud, instead of benefits. And. . .on a final note, since I have already dropped my ADA membership and, now my R.D. status, good bye to all (even though I have almost never commented on this forum). I learned a lot by lurking. Guest guest
Yes but unlikely with all the input already given. However the conference bill will be sent to both chambers for passage. Although there are some differences, there is much agreement as well. Although many have personal views of the issue, it will offer potential opportunities for our profession not seen before Re: Grrrr >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> >> > >> > >> > >> > > > >>>>> I thought the same, Carol. Guest guest
My husband retired 10 years ago. Part of his retirement package included maintaining his health care coverage, which he pays for at the group rate. We now have Medicare and his insurance as our supplemental. No dental or vision provisions. Perhaps your husband can negotiate inclusion of health care insurance when he retires. Madalyn ________________________________ To: rd-usa Cc: Audley3@... Sent: Sun, January 3, 2010 1:14:19 PM Subject: Re: Grrrr  you are abolutely correct in your assessment of the direction health care will take. And why isn't everyone of the proponents of the bill on the top of the list for implementation? ?? ---- Audley3aol (DOT) com wrote: > It boggles my mind that seemingly intelligent people don't seem to grasp > the repercussions of this bill and are burying their heads in the sand when > it comes to the realities of the bill. > > There seems to be a widespread belief that one who has medical insurance > through their employer, and who is happy with this insurance, will not have > to change it. > > That may be true in the short term, but what will happen in the long-term > is a totally different matter. > > Put simply, do the math.
