Guest guest Posted February 6, 2006 Report Share Posted February 6, 2006 Conference on prevention, control of AIDS in Jammu Jammu, Feb 6: Transport Minister Mangat Ram Sharma today called upon the nursing and midwives fraternity to brave the multi-dimensional challenges in eradication, prevention and control of HIV/AIDS. Inaugurating the IXth conference on challenges faced by nurses and midwives in prevention and control of malady of AIDS, the Minister stressed on the need of such conferences in effectively combating the deadly disease as also in devising of planned teaching programmes on the ways of AIDS transmission and self protection among the nursing community. Sharma called upon the using in right perspective the findings of the plenary conference besides the research being carried out worldwide in overcoming the challenges in prevention of AIDS as also in its control and management. On the necessity of equipping the staff nurses working in various medical institutions about the awareness of this malady, the Minister said, `any quality care programme in medical institution indispensability depends upon the specialty and compassionate care afforded by the nursing fraternity'. He hoped that the deliberations being carried out in the conference among the nurses and experts of the subject would not only enable better understanding of the malady but also in devising the strategies to belie the myths and, socio- psychological aspects and ethical dilemma in nursing care. The deliberations in 3-day long conference organized conjointly by Jammu and Kashmir Nursing Research Society of India and AMT School Jammu in the premises of the Government Medical College Jammu would be carried out under two heads with plenary sessions to be followed by the scientific session. Top professional of medical profession and scientists are attending the conference which include Professor and Head Department of CHA National Institute of Health and Family Welfare Dr. M. Bhattacharya, WHO Communication Expert Dr. P.L. Trakroo besides medicos and professionals from Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai, Ruby Hall Clinic Pune, Nursing College CMC Vellore, Choithram College of Nursing Indoreand PGIMER Chandigarh. During the 3-day long conference the experts of the subject would deliberate on HIV challenges faced by midwives in intra and postnatal period, counseling and education strategies to modify high risk behaviour in prevention and control of AIDS, universal precautions and availability of resources for nurses, biomedical waste management, knowledge and practices among the health professionals, cross sectional study on effectiveness of planned teaching programme on awareness of AIDS, effect of planned health programme for adolescents on human sexuality, knowledge-attitude and practices of care givers of AIDS patients, et al. President Nursing Research Society of India s. Uma Handa in her keynote address said that the panacea for curing the AIDS malady lies in exchange of views and applicability of the research in overcoming the obstacles associated with the disease. Handa said that another conspicuous aspect of the present workshop being attended by over 600 delegates lies in the conduct of interactive workshop by Royal College of Nursing. She said that nurses play a pivotal role in affording quality care, support and prevention of the AIDS and as such are most susceptible to the challenges all level be it at homes, primary, secondary and tertiary levels.
