Guest guest
Look at all the trouble I caused in the group, me and my loose words :-) I seem to be coming across a number of celiacs who are complaining of what doctors are calling essential tremors. Anyone have any information on nerve damage that CS can cause. And anything I can do about it. Have noticed as I have been able to keep my diet nice and regular that the pains are not so bad. I get them sometimes so that when I pick something up a suitcase, my hands lock around the strap. Of course it doenst help that I do a lot of computer work. In college I had to wear a wrist guard so my hand and wrist wouldnt hurt from using the mouse so much. Would say welcome to the whole new family of celiacs, but we are not exactly a club most want to join. If you have teens who need someone to talk to that is around their age, send them my way. Been dealing with this since birth. Later www.defaultdave.com defaultdave@...
Guest guest
I've had nerve damage in my foot since a gymnastics injury almost four years ago that SHOULD have healed, but very clearly didn't. I have to wear a brace on it all the time now. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that nearly EVERYTHING YOU HAVE IS CONNECTED. And the more I read your emails, the more reference I see to other autoimmune disorders and nerve pain. I'm convinced the celiac disease had something to do with the everlasting " permanent " as the drs say, nerve damage. Any others? Any advice? The one thing that I've actually found to work (totally to my surprise--we went to this dr for my lovely daily migraines) was seeing a NUCCA (pronounced noooka) Chiropractic Physician. NUCCA is different from other chiropractic--there's absolutely no pain involved, i hardly feel it. The dr only works with your Upper Cervical spine--in your neck. They say that part of your neck controls the rest of your body. This helped my headaches a little and also seems to have relieved some pain i have in my foot. I am often able to stand or walk for considerable periods of time when i am " in alignment. " Has anyone else tried this? If you have any questions, I'd be more than happy to answer them. This has helped a number of problems for many people. They come to see him from as far away as China. It's nuts. It can help everything from back pain, to headaches, to irregular periods, to nerve damage apparently. Definitely worth a try. And I never believed in chiropractic before. NUCCA is very exact. It is a science. They take X-rays and calculate how far out of alignment you are and then tailor your treatment specifically to your measurements. --Sara
Guest guest
Sara... Now that you mention the thing about headaches, I constantly am getting headaches. It was pretty nice that after I started eating Millet bread they went away, and if I stopped eating it they would come back. So I think that perhaps mine have something to do with diet. But they sure are a pain. Not to mention the just general cloudy feeling I have more often than not. --

Guest guest
, It seems like EVERYTHING has to do with diet! Talk about frustrating. But yeah, I had to pay close attention to everything I ate for a long while and try all sorts of new medicines to get the headaches to go away. Grades went down, couldn't go out anymore. It wasn't cool. But the NUCCA dr was helpful and...i got botox injections. Which are supposed to help migraines--and they did!!!! It's unbelievable. But it hurts. So it's sorta lucky and sorta unlucky that so much has to do with diet. what one can fix with diet, i guess one should. but i'd still like to be able to take a neat little pill before eating and be able to eat wheat like people who are lactose intolerant can take a pill and eat dairy. best of luck. i'll answer any questions regarding headaches..has anyone else run into this problem? --sara

Guest guest
Sara, If I am remembering correctly, I think you were the one that posted that you were away at school. My 20 year old neice was diagnosed today with Celiac Disease. She is a junior at the University of Georgia and will be living in a dorm. Do you, or anyone else, have any experience with College food service and the Celiac diet. She is obviously upset over her new diagnosis and eating at college when you don't live in an apartment seems like an overwhelming obstacle. Does anyone have any suggestions?! Thanks, Cari >From: gilligan212@... >Reply-To: SillyYaks >To: SillyYaks >Subject: Re: Re: question about shakyness >Date: Wed, 16 Jul 2003 19:42:04 -0400 > >, > >It seems like EVERYTHING has to do with diet! Guest guest
Sara, I've had chronic migraines for over two years now. When they first began it was 4-5 a week. I have been taking Topamax daily as a preventative and it has always helped with the severity and duration, but they gradually kept getting worse and worse. Then I found out about the celiac disease and that explained it all. I'm hoping one day to be able to at least lower my dosage of Topamax. I've been on a gluten-free diet for 2 1/2 months now. The headaches have gotten a little better (except the hormonal ones). I also try to watch my dairy, corn, and MSG intake, but I'm pretty new at all this and I may still be getting some. I'm much more knowledgeable about headaches than I am gluten. I wear a night guard when I sleep to keep from grinding my teeth. It was approved by the FDA to actually decrease migraines. Has the gf diet helped your migraines? If so, how long did it take before you noticed an improvement? I'm at the point where I don't trust anybody to cook for me, not even my boyfriend. I'm afraid he'll use something with an MSG (he's not getting it), and I'll end up getting set-back a few weeks. -----Original Message-----From: gilligan212@...
