Guest guest
Hi , Basically we see our son be very connected for weeks, he seems to become aware of everything and very interested, changes in his environment, his language becomes very conversational about the things he see's and does and hears us and others say, and things that we are doing, where we are going, why we went, when we will be back, what we buy, what is is for, almost normal. He is more expressive about his day without us asking, and will interact more with his sister, with us, with the adults around him, and trys hard with the children in the neighborhood, unfortunately the children are not very nice or very receptive to his initiations because he is already labeled the different child. He will spontaneously do chores without being asked, ask about things in the past, things we didn't realize he remembered. He wants us to teach him what ever it is we are doing, as if he realizes he missed something along the way, his sense of humor becomes abundant, he jokes in a child like way, we just see leaps and bounds in all areas. He just become happy and with us. Then when least expect it his conversation becomes perseverative, he will ask the same questions over and over, or make the same statments, and only wants to converse about the subjects he wants. He becomes almost unaware of things around him, and uninterested, back into the fog!!!! he humms alot as if to block everything out and starts to talk to himself more then he does normally,he goes into his own world again, does not want to interact with anyone and gets mad at the therapists, his sister, my husband and I. He wants to be alone, he spends alot of time doing things that are to be done alone, plays with the dog, plays tether ball, if someone wants to play with him, he has no interest, no desire ,and acts as if he did not even hear the request, if I want him to show him or teach him something new, he does not care to learn, he becomes more tempermental, more bipolar, he sinks back into his deeper world of autism, and then maybe weeks later he is back again. This has gone on since day one of chelation. The progess that we have seen that stays without to much regression is his agression, though still there is not as bad as a year ago prior to chelation. He has much more patience and does not loose it if things don't happen immediately as he used to. The more advanced words used in his language, whether normal langauge or perseverative language stay. He has picked up slang, " that is cool " " wait up " " what's up " silly things like that, that are so age appropriate. Sense of humor, kidding around, and knowing what he is doing. Like last night, I was on the computer not looking at him as he came down the stairs and asked him if he put on warm pajamas because it is cold, he said " No " and asked why he needed warm pajamas, and then asked me if it was because it was cold, I finally turned my head towards him because I knew he knew the answer to that one and I was going to give him that mom look!!! and he had his warm pajamas on with a big silly smile on his face. We get alot of that kind of thing with him whether his conversation is normal or perseverative or whether he is out of the fog or in the fog. This gets frustrating along the way, I think we all would love any progress to stay and just continue to get better. But that is the kind of thing we see when I say progress and regression. Guest guest
Leah, Thank you for your thorough reply. I am noticing a similar situation with my son......he becomes very with it and aware and extremely communicative during chelation (noticed this once we started ALA along with the DMSA we were already doing) and then he seemed to regress again this week. Started doing things he used to do quite a while ago. Could be partially due to crazy holiday week however, the progress during this last chelation weekend is so great and then noticably different during the week again. Not sure what is going on. Thank you for sharing your experience. I am wondering if he is getting something from the ALA besides metal removal or if the metals were stirred up and so see the effects the week after. I think this is why our DAN dr recommends some kids be on low level ALA all the time. Scares me to do that but may be why he does it. (Wont be going there yet). i know he says he sees three kinds of kids. Those who regress during chelation weekend and then progress after; those who have no effects during and progress after; and those who progress during and regress after. Keep seeing lots of comments on how people think negative side effects are an indication of metal removal. It doesnt seem to me that this HAS to happen for there to be indication that the metals are be being removed......comment anyone???? Thanks, (Just finished 9 rounds on Blake age 4) [ ] Re: Leah--progress/regress Hi , Basically we see our son be very connected for weeks, he seems to become aware of everything and very interested, changes in his environment, his language becomes very conversational about the things he see's and does and hears us and others say, and things that we are doing, where we are going, why we went, when we will be back, what we buy, what is is for, almost normal. It doesnt seem to me that this HAS to > happen for there to be indication that the metals are be being > removed......comment anyone???? It does not have to happen. Side effects while the chelating agents are in the system and for up to a day afterwards are reasonable and expected. If you go slow enough they can be negligible. Most people choose to go as fast as they can without suffering a lot and do get some side effects. Side effects or " regression " lasting longer than that are an indication that the protocol being used is inappropriate for that person. If the doc insists on continuing with it anyway, then it is an indication that person needs a new physician.
