Guest guest
Kay I agree. The two families whose kids are on piracetam have both stated it has made a great improvement in thier kids lives however when they happened to run out the behaviors became horrible! You have to weaned them off the drug if you want to stop. You can not stop cold turkey! Guest guest
nne, From reports I've gotten from parents, the sensory play increases usually showed up pretty quickly - certainly within a month. And yes, after the piracetam was discontinued, they returned to the pre-piracetam state. But like I said, most of our experience with piracetam has been with children with Down syndrome. And often there are positives - increased energy, language, more " with it " , but the negatives outweigh the gains and they stop. Sometimes there were only the negative behaviors seen, too. So the response is quite individual. Most of the parents on this list are experts in their children - watching them for reactions and knowing when to stop something. I just wanted people to be aware that with a child with dual-diagnosis - autism/DS - piracetam is usually not used because of the negative effects. But if you try piracetam and it doesn't work for your child, you can always take it yourself. Most parents I know with children with autism need that extra boost.... I think this is a wonderful statement. I know my child and often good things start out negative, but not too negative, and then become positive. This may not be the case with other children.
