Is the SBD feasible if you can't tolerate the taste of artificial

sweeteners?

Thanks.

Jane

Jane, that would be a hard question for anyone to answer, ummm I guess it really does depend on how much you enjoy sweets and your personal preference on what types of food you eat. There is nothing that says you have to sweeten anything that you eat. I know that's not really an answer either, IM sorry.

Jane,

I too do not like most artificial sweeteners. However, Splenda is great, at first I had to use more than the 1:1 ratio (same amt. of splenda as sugar) but not now only a week into things. There is not an aftertaste like so many of the other sweeteners. I also use Florida Crystals Organic Pure Cane Sugar. It is low in carbs (0 fat, 16 calories, 4 carbs per teaspoon). Most groceries should have it. I get mine at Teeter.

Oh definetely! Actually, I think you would be a lot better off eliminating

sweets altogether, rather than substituting the artificial sweeteners for

real sugar. I have a hard time using anything that is not natural, and

really question how safe these sweeteners really are. When doing other low

carb diets before, i eventually discovered that my biggest problem was that

I spent too much time trying to eat the same foods, but making them legal

(SF candies and pop, " legal " cookes, cake, mashed potatoes, etc) The new,

imitation foods just don't cut it, and I always ended up eating those, and

still craving the real thing. Research has shown that some aritificial

sweeteners may cause your blood sugar to rise, even if they don't have

carbs. Your body still thinks you are getting those carb rich foods

because it is something sweet. Anyway...now that I'm not eating hardly

anything sweet, usually only 1 diet mtn dew or a cup of sf hot cocoa /day,

I feel better and crave sweets less. Plus I'm eating, and enjoying more

veggies.

That said, I would hihgly suggest you not get into the habit if you don't

have to. Most things made with art. sweeteners pretty much suck anyway.

Reward yourself occasionally if you want, and eat something yummy.

Isn't this cane sugar just like regular sugar? I would do some research, I

really don't think it's legal and will have the same effect on your blood

sugar as regular sugar does.

Yes it is regular cane sugar that has not been refined to death (it's more brown in color instead of white) . Yes it has a higher GI but if you can't use the artificial or other sweeteners that are out there, this one is much better than plain white refined sugar. I personally never have used much sugar on anything so I have not had a problem with this type of sugar- I don't have any sugar cravings or other extra cravings when I use it, perhaps because I have used this for over 3 years instead of regular white refined sugar for those few times I need sugar in something. So as long as you aren't using cups upon cups of this daily, a teaspoon or tablespoon shouldn't be too bad, if you can't use the artificial. I can't use things like Equal, fructose, saccharine, anything with aspartame etc. so I was happily surprised I can use Splenda without problems. As with anything on this "diet", use with "caution". I don't really like to think of something that is organic and natural as not being legal for me to use in my way of eating and I'm going to eat/use it. Just my views. Sorry to upset the apple cart...just was trying to give her an alternative that I use.

Just discontinue eating sweets if that's what you mean. I

never thought sweets or artificially sweetened items were

essential. Naturally sweet items are available to eat.

Do any eating plans designed to lose weight allow real

sugars during the losing phase(s)? I am not familiar with

all the plans that are available.

Thanks everyone. I have never tried Splenda. The other sweeteners

have a nasty taste to me.

Thanks for the info , very interesting. I just didn't want someone

to think they could use this sugar in place of artificial, w/ the same

results. I agree with you about the natural food thing, I would rather use

natural any day. And when i do get to my target weight, will use something

like this rather than splenda or others.

We have discussed this article before. It is in direct opposite to what many

other doctors write. (including all of my doctors, who feel safe in letting me

use Splenda)

... you can do a lot of research, and I encourage you to. But, what you

will find is you might do well with some artificial sweeteners, and not well

with others. I use Splenda, and have *never* had problems. BUt, I get

headaches from aspartame.

I believe the below article is for shock value. So, read it... but, don't let

it frighten you off beyond belief. There is an article like this for every

product out there, odds are. Out there.. somebody has reacted to something in

some manner.

And, we on this list will always disagree about artifical sweeteners, and their

uses. It is a personal choice. None of them could be considered 'dangerous',

or they would not be on the market (in my opinion)

Not wanting to start an artifical sweetener debate. I just wanted to say

something when I saw the below article being brought up again.

Good luck!
