Guest guest
There used to be 4 vital signs that they used in the ER and now it has been changed it to 5 for the patients benefit ( they have added the Pain Level ) because there has been to many patients that were not getting the proper care. it actually was written by the University of __________? sorry I can't remember ( I'm having a senior moment this morning ) but here they are for those who want them in writing, this is effective as of Jan 1.2001..it is very effective along with the Patients Bill of Rights 5 Vital Signs for the ER 1.Pulse 2.B/p 3.Resperation 4.Temp. 5.Pain Level, - They must ask you when you enter the ER what you're pain level is, and they also have to monitor you while your there., & also check again after you leave.to do followup.( if you are a Chronic Pain Patient ) This is the New Law as of Jan.1.01 - & the hospitals accepting mone$ could loose their founding & accreditiationon if they don't follow these new directives as they are Laws
Guest guest
Hi there, Yes, the 5th vital sign is a pain assessment. The new law further goes to state that if the doctor cannot effectively manage the pain, then he must make the appropriate referrals to the doctor that can manage the pain. I.E.: Neurologist, pain management center, anesthesiologist. Glenn
