Guest guest
One of the things that I read in Intuitive Eating is that eventually a person will get to where they eat well about 90% of the time and eat junk the other 10%. The dietitian who wrote the book said that she eats like that. Try to eat healthy foods that you enjoy. Eating legumes, vegetables, fruit, whole grains (there are some that taste good), consuming at least two low-fat dairy products (okay when you like the taste as much as the regular) and drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day helps me. I still crave fatty and sugary foods and allow myself to have them. But if I crave them too much, I know it is an issue beyond hunger. Maybe I'm stressed, anxious, depressed, etc. I try to resolve the issue. I try to avoid foods with partially hydrogenated oil/trans fat as much as possible. It isn't because they are fattening and will make me gain weight. It is because they are unhealthy. The body has a difficult time digesting them. They were only invented to improve the texture and to increase the shelf life of food. It isn't any better tasting than healthier fats, in my opinion. There are a lot of foods that are trans fat-free. Just look at the food label under fat and if it says " Trans fat 0 g " , it is trans fat free. When I went to the grocery store the other day I got some chocolate chip cookies (the kind that are ready to bake in the oven). Pillsbury had trans fat while the Nestle brand didn't have any trans fat. I got the Nestle brand. Hope that helps. > > Hey everyone, > I just had a terrible peanut butter and chocolate craving and rather than denying it from myself (despite > the fact I am not especially hungry) I ate a Twix Peanut Butter Bar (it sounded good at the time) and now I > feel...well, completely satisfied. > > That being said, I've been eating a lot more sugar and fat lately than normal (mainly because i'm allowing > foods again) and I'm wondering if it will ever stop. Guest guest
Jeri, I am finding the longer I do IE, the less I want high sugar content foods. I'm getting more and more turned off by that yucky feeling in my mouth after I eat something with high sugar content. It grosses me out so much now that I have to brush my teeth really soon after eating something like that. I believe that articial sweetners also helped me aquire a taste for less sweet foods. I know not everyone is a fan of artificial sweetners so have to do what is right for you. Guest guest
Hi, Jeri! If you were satisfied.... I dunno! Seems good. It's when you eat those things and aren't satisfied...... I think I might take those sugar cravings as a message and ask yourself what's really going on there..... 'cause something's up! Don't you just wish your body spoke English sometims???? In the meantime -- there are usually alternatives if you've got cravings but want a more nutritous choice. I personally ****love***** peanut butter. And with chocolate? Ahhh.... I started buying natural peanut butter, 'cause I don't like using hydrogenated oils, either. I love including fat in my diet (it gives me such a lovely feeling of well-being) -- but I want the best quality fats I can find. It turns out that if you keep that natural stuff in the fridge, it doesn't separate. Also, I add a bit of molasses, which I think improves the flavor quite a bit. (I end up dumping the peanut butter into a bowl, warming it a tad in the microwave, doctoring the flavor a bit, stirring it all together well, and popping it in the fridge.) Then -- have you tried dark chocolate? Everybody's talking about the nutritious benefits of dark chocolate. Milk chocolate is still good to me, but I've actually come to prefer the dark. I'm thinking natural peanut butter with dark chocolate would be a fairly similar flavor profile, but healthier. FWIW!!! :-) > > Hey everyone, > I just had a terrible peanut butter and chocolate craving and rather than denying it from myself (despite > the fact I am not especially hungry) I ate a Twix Peanut Butter Bar (it sounded good at the time) and now I > feel...well, completely satisfied. > > That being said, I've been eating a lot more sugar and fat lately than normal (mainly because i'm allowing > foods again) and I'm wondering if it will ever stop. Guest guest
I eat whatever I feel like at the time. However, I have found that the healthier I eat, the less I want sugary foods. Guest guest
As far as hydrogenated oils and trans fat goes, I've really been working to cut them out, mainly because of all the research that I've read about it causing inflammation in a person's body. With how many problems my husband already has with pain and inflammation in his body, I've stopped bringing anything into the house that could make it worse. love, Deanna > > > > Hey everyone, > > I just had a terrible peanut butter and chocolate craving and > rather than denying it from myself (despite > > the fact I am not especially hungry) I ate a Twix Peanut Butter > Bar (it sounded good at the time) and now I > > feel...well, completely satisfied. > > > > That being said, I've been eating a lot more sugar and fat lately > than normal (mainly because i'm allowing > > foods again) and I'm wondering if it will ever stop.
