I just wanted to share with everyone that I met with Dr. Thayer today. What

a nice man!! I really liked him and hope that everything works smoothly. I

have a few wrinkles to work through. First of all, I have a BMI of 39.

Wouldn't you know, for the first time in my life I am not fat enough!!! I

should have worn rocks in my shoes!! Dr. Thayer is afraid it may cause

problems with the insurance company. Also, I am a 3rd year law student and I

have school insurance. I have talked with the insurance company, but no one

knows exactly how this is going to go. Dr. Thayer promised to write a very

supportive letter and I will cross my fingers. In any case, I will be at the

support group on May 4th so I hope to see many of your smiling faces!! Has

any one else had to fight with insurance companies? Sally seems so nice and

said that she hoped to have some info by next Thursday. Also, what is the

realistic recovery time? I have to do some studying for the Bar exam this

summer which the office was also concerned about, but as I told Dr. Thayer,

the summer is a lot less stressful and easier than after I am working full

time as a lawyer

which starts in September.

..

Let us know how it goes ... if Dr. Thayer says he will try to help he

certainly will do his best for you. And hope to see you on the 4th!

,

Go back to see Dr Thayer and put mini weights in your pockets to make your

weight go up. This will cause the BMI to increase as well. Just take the

weights out of those weights that you can strap onto your ankles. It

works!!

Diane,

I should have talked to you first!! I do not know what I was thinking!!! Since

they weighed me withmy clothes on it would have been easy. Dr. Thayer has no

problem with performing the surgery, I guess the issue is the insurance. I

doubt he would lie and change it now. Its too late. But I am hopeful and have

only begun to fight. If I am turned down, I will go to the Lawyer on Olwen's

Website for advice. I should have just had a few cheesecakes at the cheesecake

factory and a couple of gallons of water before going to the appointment. LOL.

After all this research I should have realized. I thought the BMI would affect

the doctor doing the surgery and I was only off by one point, I did not realize

it was an insurance issue.

When i went to Dr. Thayer I wore a t-shirt, a sweater, heavy jeans my biggest clog style shoes .. I didn't put weights in my pocket although I know people who have :) (no names!) and I ate a big breakfast before I went in. My bmi was 41.2

I was worried I wouldn't make the qualification but I did .. I wonder if you can go back to Dr. Thayer .. I hate to say to someone pig out and gain a few pounds to make the mark but on the other hand .. if you're that close ... when do you go back?

People who are morbidly obese tend to keep gaining weight....go back

in a couple weeks with those weights in your pocket......you are correct-I'm

sure Dr. Thayer wont lie--you just will have gained weight!
