Guest guest
Do you reach for healthy food or comfort food? I've decided that intuitive eating, for me, doesn't necessarily mean putting whatever the heck strikes me in my mouth. If I am hungry, I try to decide what it is that my body is needing and try to satisfy it with something healthy. If I need carbs, I'm better off reaching for some whole wheat bread than a doughnut. If I have a taste for something salty, then I make some popcorn rather than opening a bag of chips. When it comes to meal planning, if a nonfat or lowfat version of a food tastes just as good as the full-fat version, then I'll use the nonfat or lowfat. Once I release myself from the demands of dieting and give myself full permission to make any choice I want, why wouldn't I want to make the healthy choices that make my body feel good? Why would I want to eat those doughnuts that will make me feel like crap and leave me hungry again in an hour? I had a doughnut after church for the first time in ages and it didn't even taste good. I would have been happier with some whole wheat toast with a little jam spread on it.
