Thanks, Gillian, for the

information. It is good to hear from someone who is a veteran.

Hi Vicki,

I have been able to stick with IE since I started. After my last diet, I was

done and I refused to go back to anything even looking like a diet. As far as

weight, I have maintained my weight within 10 pounds I would say (not sure

since I don't weight myself). I still have difficult times, sometimes it seems

easier to eat than to deal with my feelings. The good news is that these times

don't last too long. Used to be my binging behavior would last up to a couple

of weeks. Now, if it happens, I binge (and I don't eat as much as I used to)

and I move on. No guilt, no skipping my next meal, or swearing to exercise to

work it off. I also find that if I do eat too much, my body will compensate for

it later and I am not as hungry. It's really interesting. Please keep in mind

that when you find yourself off track, there is always something to be learned

from it. It's a good time to step back and ask yourself what is going on, how

you feel, and what you really need.

Hope this helps!

Hi Everyone,

I have been lurking here for a while so I thought it was time to say hi!

My name is Gillian and I have been on the Intuitive Eating journey since 2000.

I am a fitness coach and met a dietician through a colleague. I was a binge

eating since the age of 7, I know how it happened. I grew up having to eat

foods I didn't like, clean my plate, food restriction, etc. You guys know the

story I am sure. I dieted for years with mixed results, and always finished

with a great big diet deprivation backlash. Intuitive Eating really saved me

from insanity, I don't know what I would do without it!

Since finding help with IE, I went through a coach training program to help

others. I have been doing this since 2003.

I still have my moments when it feels life would be easier if I had some food

to numb me. It's an up and down journey, but for those of you who are just

getting started, I can tell you that the down times get shorter and shorter

over time.

I look forward to getting to know you. I am here to offer support as well as

get support from the group. There are times I really need it! :-)

Hi everyone. I just joined the group and I wanted to introduce

myself. My name is Barbara, and I'm 34 and live in Wisconsin. I

learned about the intutive eating website from the latest issue of

Oprah, and I was very happy to see a link to this support group when I

checked the website out.

I've been struggling with emotional eating for as long as I can

remember. About 10 years ago, I discovered Geneen Roth's writings, and

they had a huge impact on my and my efforts to deal with my eating

issues and patterns. Since then, I've also read the " Overcoming

Overeating " books and of course, Intuitive Eating.

Over the past 10 years, I've made a lot of progress. I can distinguish

between physical and emotional hunger; I can rate my hunger levels and

I know what level of hunger is the ideal time to eat. I know how to

determine what my body wants to eat and when my body has had enough.

I've also had short periods in my life when I've been able to eat from

physical hunger pretty regularly.

That said, I feel stalled right now. As soon as life gets busier and

more stressful (which is most of the time), my emotional eating starts

back up full force. I feel that I've gotten some of the basic stuff

down on my own, but would really benefit from having a support

community to help me get to the next level and learn how to stick with

the intutive eating under normal life circumstances and not only when

I'm on break from school (I'm a professor)or on vacation. I do see a

therapist who helps me with my underlying emotional issues, but she's

not an eating specialist, and isn't familiar with this approach to

eating.

I have several reasons why I want to work on these eating issues. 1)

I use food to avoid dealing with assorted emotional issues and

situations. I really want to learn how to deal with some of these

issues head on instead of eating them away. 2) I worry about my long

term health. I'm not overweight and I don't have any major health

problems that i know of, but if I continue with my emotional eating

patterns (my overeating food of choice is chocolate and sweets, and at

particular times in my life I've consumed over a pound of chocolate a

day for days/weeks on end.)I could do some serious damage. I'm all for

eating chocolate and sweets, but I'd like to eat them when I actually

want them and not when I'm in need of a security blanket or a stress

reliever.

Anyway, sorry for the length of this post. I just felt great to get

this all down in writing. I really haven't had many people to talk to

about my eating issue and even less people to talk to about the

intuitive eating approach. Most people aren't familiar with it and/or

don't really get it.

I look forward to meeting you all!

Barb

Hello,

My name is le. I have always known that waiting until you are hungry and stopping when you are comfortable is the best way to lose weight and maintain it for life. I like the fact that you cannot fail doing it this way. If you happen to over eat , you just wait until you are hungry again. I have done Weighdown and led a couple of classes and successfully lost weight. Unfortunately the program had other intentions that I'm sure most of you know about. Well, I threw everything out including the bath water and gained 100 pounds! I'm so glad that there are other books/authors out there that believe in the hunger/ fullness philosophy. That's how I found this group. I ordered my book and can't wait to glean from it and find support from all of you.

Thanks for reading,

le

Welcome le, This group is a great area of support. You will find some very intelligent women and men here who are very supportive and help out in your time of need. I have a question about Weighdown. What components of it didn't you like? Michele "Jenn S." wrote: -----Forwarded

Hi Michele,

There was not anything I didn't like about the WDW. It was

wonderful until Gwen started to impose a twist on her followers.

When I followed the program in the beginnings, I felt a big burden

lifted off of my shoulders. Freedom to eat with peace. You can

continue on in other programs she offers like Weighdown Advance and

Strongholds. In the beginning, I personally felt I had the grace

from God to make mistakes and continue on down the path of

sactification. Which, by the way, will never come full circle in this

life time. In the later programs, Gwen starts to put the

pressure on to conform to God's image. If you fail, you are outside

of God's " will " , so to speak. Well, I'm sorry, nobody is perfect and

never will be in this life time. We will always make mistakes.

Anyway to make this short, I felt I was led by a dangling carrot or

maybe a piece of chocolate! I truly was growing in my personal faith

with the Lord, even through the mistakes I made. Then, Gwen let her

full intentions be known through the other programs. Either conform

to what I (Gwen) says is true about the Bible or admit that you have

chosen a cheap grace because you are allowing sin to continue in your

life. I'm sorry, Christ dying on the cross for my sins was not

cheap. He came into the world to live with us and experience our

struggles. I am thankful and try to contiually remind myself of

this. He knows we are not perfect. That's why He died for us.

That's why His gift of salvation is free! We can't earn it by trying

to be perfect (sinless) as Gwen tries to indoctrinate.

Wheew! This is my personal experience. I hope no one will take

offence. This is not a sermon by any means.

I am so glad to have found this group. I hope to gain a lot of

wisdom from all of you who are on the same journey to IE! I just

hope I can catch up to all of you. I have a lot of road ahead of

me. : )

AMEN le!! Very well stated!!

His (Christ's) gift is FREE -- by grace alone, not of works so no one

can boast!!

It is your discernment that lead you away from the lie and into the

truth!!

Nice to have you here!!

God bless,

Lori

Amen to this. It's funny because Gwen had a testimony in her first

book from a diabetic man and he said that we can't do anything to

earn our salvation. I don't think Gwen believes that so I wondered

why she put the man's testimony in her book.

There was an article is " Self " about this a few months back. Many

former participants in the program voiced the same opinion; that Gwen

has become an almost cult-like figure, and that there is no room for

mistakes.
