Guest guest
Good for you! I think that is a big deal. I am now making a point of always leaving something on my plate. At first I was able to do that with everything but sweets. Now I am throwing at least a bite of everthing in the trash, one bite of a ccokie, the last bit of an ice cream cone with ice cream in it. I don't know if that is really i.e. but I am finding it very impowering and I walk away from the meal feeling satisfied. na > > I had my first victory today. Guest guest
I had my first true and honest vicory. I waited til i was hungry which wasnt til 11:30, and i made half a tuna sandwich- wanted leftover spaghetti, but i felt tuna was a healthier choice. I ate about 3/4 of the sandwich, sat a minute and tried to listen to what my body was telling me, and instead of tempting myself, I just threw it away. It was hard, but i did it!susan wrote: Good for you! I think that is a big deal. I am now making a point of always leaving something on my plate. Guest guest
-- Another program I was involved with was Light Weigh--which is a Catholic weight loss program. There is a sacrificial aspect to the program--as in, when you are tempted to eat out of the hunger/satisfied realm, offer it up for someone who you know needs prayers. The owner of that program is a woman by the name of Suzanne Fowler. She advocates offering up temptations, but also, eating a mug full of food. Your stomach is about the size of a regular coffee mug. Anyway...one of the things she does is to leave a bite of food for your guardian angel. When I first started doing it, I would leave the crappy part of the steak that I wasn't going to eat anyway...then I had a change of heart and started giving my guardian angel the best piece!! You're right, it is empowering to not let the food rule what you do. Cheryl Re: First victory Good for you! I think that is a big deal. Guest guest
Kelley-- You need to get rid of that "i felt tuna was a healthier choice" thing. I don't mean to sound like I am pointing my finger saying "You NEED to do..." but I can't think of any other way to write that right now. This program is all about honoring our bodies. Our minds are part of our bodies. Legalizing food is a very important step. When ALL foods are okay for you, they don't have as much allure. When I want something crunchy, some times it is chips or popcorn, but a lot of times it is celery or cucumbers dipped in ranch dressing. At this point, I take the time to really consider what it is I want--what will taste the best to me. Because I've made all foods okay--crunchy doesn't always mean chips to me. Don't get me wrong, I still love chips. But, because I know I can have them when I want, I don't always WANT them. Cheryl Re: Re: First victory I had my first true and honest vicory. Guest guest
Thanks Cheryl for the advice. I still feel though that it is important to make healthy choices. I dont ban foods, but I feel better most of the time when I eat healthier foods, that is what I have learned about myself. i learned last night after eating spaghetti that i didnt like the way i felt, the healthier choice was tuna and it made me feel better. I do understand what you are saying though, and I do appreciate it.kelleyCheryl Bagtaz wrote: Kelley-- You need to get rid of that "i felt tuna was a healthier choice" thing. Guest guest
Why didn’t you eat the spaghetti? That is what you wanted. Guest guest
No, I didnt want spaghetti. I had two choices for lunch, spaghetti or tuna. I know from the past that tuna makes me feel better and healthier afterwards- thats why I made that choice. I had the spaghetti the night before, so th next day when i loloked at it- it had no appeal to me.Vicki wrote: Why didn’t you eat the spaghetti? That is what you wanted. Guest guest
In one of her books, Geneen Roth encourages people to decide which food they want to eat based not only on what their body is feeling beforehand, but also how they think their body will feel after eating it. So it sounds that this is what you did. Congrats! I think the key with this strategy is to listen to what your body is telling you regarding how it would feel eating after a particular food rather than you simply choosing something because intellectually you know it is healthier. Most of the time, your body's probably going to point you in the healthier direction anyway- -at least in my experience this is what my body does. Barb > > > > I had my first victory today. Guest guest
yes- that is what i was trying to do! I think our bodis are naturally inclined to want healthyier foods, but our stomache's and our minds tell us otherwise haha."Barbara L." wrote: In one of her books, Geneen Roth encourages people to decide which food they want to eat based not only on what their body is feeling beforehand, but also how they think their body will feel after eating it.
