It does, but I don't think it pays much. I'm really not sure though. You can call Medicare and they will tell you. I've read recently that Medicare is increasing what it pays to hospitals and will decrease what it pays to doctors.

80% of what they deem as legitimate charges. there are things like a dr can't order a basic metabolic panel unless he can come up with several dx's. Like if the person is diabetic, they'll say you should have only done a glucose and hgba1c when in all reality if the person is a diabetis they need the whole panel to also monitor their kidney function and if they are taken cholesterol meds they should have a comprehensive to also monitor the drug is not effecting the liver. Medicare doesn't see it as preventative, they'll say just run the sugar and if the patient choses to have the test done the hospital will tell them medicare might not pay for this and have them sign a form when they KNOW medicare won't pay then they can bill the pt for the whole amount. Crazy crazy...lol I was just wondering how much it might pay of my 3 day $7500 bill. But it's secondary, medicare is for me. My ins is waiting to see what Medicare is going to do but they need to do something first. That's the way I understood the EOB online. arrgghh! Thanks '. I knew there was a lot they wouldn't pay for but I couldn't remember. I know my daughter-in-law talks about it a lot. She is the surgery scheduler for a large cardiac and internal medicine practice. Medicare has some screwy rules when it comes to testing. Now this is outpatient stuff but I know has complained about Medicare not paying for some kind of cardiac test when when another test is ordered for the same day. Those poor people have to come back on a different day for the second test or Medicare won't pay for it. I'll ask her. But if anyone has questions they should call Medicare. They were very helpful with me on the phone.

I went through that too, several years ago with a different insurance when Medicare was my secondary. Medicare wouldn't pay until my insurance paid and my insurance wouldn't pay until Medicare paid. They both argued with each other that the other was supposed to pay first. Like you said, Shirley, arrgghh!!!!!!!
