Guest guest
I hate to break the news to you, but MOST people don't think the way you do. MOST people in the US are overweight. THAT is a fact. Some people are larger than others, true, but did you know that the average size of women is a 14-16? People are overweight for many reasons. Some because they are lazy, some because they have no willpower, some because they have a really slow metabolism, some due to medical conditions, etc. If you want more specific examples, I can surely give them to you. How do you help your friend? Well, get rid of the prejudice would be the first step. I can imagine that she is not very happy with herself either. She doesn't need you judging her too. Secondly, she will want to change herself. Without it, you can't do a thing except accept the fact she is fat, or stop being her friend. If she wants to change, ask her what you can do to help. But you have to want to help her because you care about her, not because you are repulsed by her. > I know this group is for those who need to lose weight but my problem > is not that. Guest guest
I don't want to sound meen or rude - but I was as close to a 'perfect 10' (as you put it) as could get when I was young too. Ya know what? I loved everyone - fat or thin, ugly or pretty EXCEPT for people with prejudice, people with attitudes. Looks aren't everything. Even to the 'visual' male...go to some 'men' kind of boards and ask...they'll take an average looking girl with a smile and friendly attitude over a " perfect 10 " that is 'not so nice' any day. Pretty is as pretty does. And one day - you will get older, and probably heavier. I hate to think of the low self esteem issues you'll have at that point considering the outlook you have now. Guest guest
boriquanegra - I guess I found your letter more than a bit more offensive. I agree with and others who have said that yours is not most people's outlook - thankfully - or what will us " overweight, un-insightful, cringe to look at people do? " Lepers of the modern society that you describe. Oh well, how unfortunate for you that delight, joy, acceptance, love, sex appeal, laughter and true friendship doesn't automatically appear with your perfect size 10... and no, this is not a case of sour grapes cause I've never had a perfect size 10 body (ok, so maybe I did have it all at birth), but rather a new sense of thankfulness that I am who I am... perfect loved by a husband that adore me, children who delight in having me as their Mom, and total acceptance from my friends (who live in the same society as you btw). Condolences to your " friend " . Btw, I really didn't mean to offend, upset or judge.... it kinda just came with the territory... in an off-beat kinda way.... God willing. Guest guest
Let me guess, you are young? And I think that that statement that tupac said, is a cop out. Didn't he get killed? Even if you are born in a world of some " fat prejudice people " that doesn't mean you have to be one. You are only responsible for you and you can be a person who is empathetic and compassionate. This is my take on this subject and only mine, so people please don't get offended. I believe that the majority of overweight people are overweight because of self-esteem issues and something is bothering them inside. Just like someone who drinks too much or takes drugs. Food is a drug that takes away the pain, when you are in the midst of eating it. Or stress, worry, anxiety and even boredom. If you love your friend and are not superficial then you can have the notion to stick with her and try to help her. The fact that you came here to find some answers says that you care, unless of course, that is not the case. If you really want to help your friend then just love her unconditionally and support her and be there for her if and when she wants to talk. Just accept her the way she is and see the beauty that is inside her, not the outside. That is just a shell. She may feel that she is not fat and you may think that she is fat when in fact she may not be " fat " . It is a matter of perception. You might think Pamela is perfect but to someone else she may be too skinny. So your friend may actually be normal and happy. Tina I need Help I know this group is for those who need to lose weight but my problem is not that. Guest guest
i feel very offended as well. i may not be too overweight, but i am and i think that people with any type of predjiduce need to work this out. everyone is human and has feelings. i think that yes you may be the size many of us strive for but that makes you in no way perfect. especially the way that you bring that up in a club that you know has overweight people. it is not motivational if that's what you thought you were striving for. as for your friend you don't sound like a real friend to me. if you want her to change just because she disgusts you then that's no reason, she should change for her health or her feelings not you. and like others have said maybe she's not overweight. the average american woman is a 12-16. if she's that she's not overweight, she's average. if you are a size 10 then that's not much bigger than you and it wouldn't take much for you to get there. if you ate wrongly and were not active it could take as little as a month if that. i am sorry you feel this way but like someone else suggested you need to get professional help in this way. my cousin is beautiful at her size 10 and she too thinks she's perfect and that's the reason i don't go with ehr anywhere i can't stand that stuck up attitude, the whispers about other people, or her hurtful comments to other people. she has never said anything to me but i know by the way she looks at me, that's also why i am no longer with a friend of mine, no matter how well i was doing in my weight loss she always had those looks and that funny attitude about me. i hated it and i don't want to go back to that. what types of activities did you enjoy that she can no longer do, or perhaps she no longer wants to do them. also like someone else has already suggested take her shopping or join a gym together. if my friend ahd done that i didn't feel like she was purposely being hurtful then we would still be friends, but instead i had to hear her talking behind my back, and i did hear her not through someone else, i was walking up to talk to her and she was talking to someone else about me. > I know this group is for those who need to lose weight but my problem > is not that. Guest guest
i feel very offended as well. i may not be too overweight, but i am and i think that people with any type of predjiduce need to work this out. everyone is human and has feelings. i think that yes you may be the size many of us strive for but that makes you in no way perfect. especially the way that you bring that up in a club that you know has overweight people. it is not motivational if that's what you thought you were striving for. as for your friend you don't sound like a real friend to me. if you want her to change just because she disgusts you then that's no reason, she should change for her health or her feelings not you. and like others have said maybe she's not overweight. the average american woman is a 12-16. if she's that she's not overweight, she's average. if you are a size 10 then that's not much bigger than you and it wouldn't take much for you to get there. if you ate wrongly and were not active it could take as little as a month if that. i am sorry you feel this way but like someone else suggested you need to get professional help in this way. my cousin is beautiful at her size 10 and she too thinks she's perfect and that's the reason i don't go with ehr anywhere i can't stand that stuck up attitude, the whispers about other people, or her hurtful comments to other people. she has never said anything to me but i know by the way she looks at me, that's also why i am no longer with a friend of mine, no matter how well i was doing in my weight loss she always had those looks and that funny attitude about me. i hated it and i don't want to go back to that. what types of activities did you enjoy that she can no longer do, or perhaps she no longer wants to do them. also like someone else has already suggested take her shopping or join a gym together. if my friend ahd done that i didn't feel like she was purposely being hurtful then we would still be friends, but instead i had to hear her talking behind my back, and i did hear her not through someone else, i was walking up to talk to her and she was talking to someone else about me. > I know this group is for those who need to lose weight but my problem > is not that. I have actually never been overweight nor will i ever be > (god willing) I am what people would call a perfect 10, not to sound > stuck up that is just a fact. Guest guest
Hey , At least you are honest. I too feel I am losing it to look better also. I also know it is so much better for you health wise too so it has many side benefits. I do think everyone wants to look better. I am starting to see some progress. This morning.. I started thinking.. oh no... what if you ever go backward again. It can be so easy. It just amazes me how some of us have to try so hard and others it is just natural for them. You know what I mean? Guest guest
Hi, I think I can understand where you are coming from, but yes, like someone else said, you must be young. Well, I have always been alittle slightly overweight as an adult.. about 10 lbs. or so in my 20's so I was pretty close but I have always struggled to lose pounds. Of course where I am in life now, I am more overweight than 10 lbs. The only thing you can do for your friend is encourage her. Everyone has different metabolisms and some people have to struggle in life with weight where others do not. Just the way it is I guess. I guess it can be an issue for some, but to have such negative thoughts as you do does not sound right. You cannot judge someone solely from how they look on the outside. What about a bad feature like being real short or having a big nose, etc? You do have to accept people for what they are. Pretty packages do not always mean there is something nice inside. Dianne > I know this group is for those who need to lose weight but my problem > is not that. Guest guest
on an oprah show and in some fitness magazines i subscribe to the average woman is a size 12-16 i didn't mean 14 but the average american woman is a size 12-16. in certain areas there are some where it is more for that area as an avearage and some where a size 10 or in some areas a size 6 but the average all american woman is a 12-16 .i don't really whine about it that's my inward feelings about how i feel when i see this, i needed to vent as everyone does once in a while, i have been working hard since september seriously trying to change myself not once whining, or bringing down anyone around me, or complaining about my weight, i'm the only one who can control it and the only one who can do anythingabout it, i know that, and i know that some obese people is because they don't take care of themselves, some are medical problems. for me i had only gained weight because of miscarriages because of medicine i was put on afterwards, and then going on depo, i know this is not an excuse but this is when i gained it. i am working my butt off and it is easy to get offended but doesn't mean i was trying to diss anyone. it is okay to lose weight for selfish reasons but if she does not want to do it for that then she should lose it for health reasons. i do a lot to change my weight. i walk 30-45 min 5-6 days a week, do 200 crunches, 20 pushups and 2 sets of weights everyday. so i am not just sitting not doing anything. i have changed what i eat dramatically. i used to eat out at least once a day, now i eat three healthy small meals, have cut out the candy and pretty much the soda. i limit myself to one a week if i crave it. i drink plenty of water a day and keep myself motivated. > Iam sorry but I dont think a size 14-16 is average, I would say more like a 10-12 is average ......its ok to be overweight, noone can change that, but its not ok to whine about , and then never do anything about it.......i was a size 6-8 until a few years ago and i started eating and eating and eating and i gained the weight and yes i was more beautiful at size 6-8 than i am now....that is just a fact of life, and yes i am selfish i am loosing weight to look better....not only for my health........ > > stacy > > >

Guest guest
There is nothing wrong with wanting to look better. I want to be healthier, yes, but I would like to look nice for my hubby. He is wonderful about it and I almost think he don't want me to loose weight but he is very supportive when I need him to be. So I think there is nothing wrong with wanting to feel better about how you look...cuz feeling good is healthy, right?
